Jan. 17 - Transitioning to Adulthood With Gerhardt: Increasing attention is being paid to needs of learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as they enter adolescence and grow into adulthood. Where job placement was once considered desirable, now the goal is career development. Instead of residential placement, there is talk of residential choices in support of quality of life. This workshop will provide an overview of this movement toward transition planning for competent adulthood. Support structures, social and life skills, and sexuality will also be addressed in young adults with ASD. Gerhardt is the President of OAR (Organization for Autism Research) and the Chair of OAR's Scientific Council.
