Not to freak you out -- although you're probably already freaked out, so likely, that ship has already sailed -- but it could be a type of seizure. If your child hasn't been checked for seizures, I would ask a doctor to do so. Otherwise, it could be something called a "night terror," and they might be able to check into that at a sleep lab. That would require him and likely you staying overnight in a sleep lab connected with a hospital.

Subject: [ ] Do any of ur children experience Night Frights??

Hi my son has had a cough for about 2 days now, so I took him to the

Dr.s yesterday. They said he had croop (although I had no idea a 6

year old could get that, they say it can be cought up till puberty)

anyways...they gave him a shot of steroids and 3 days worth of an

antibotic. This is why I think he had the night frights, from the

meds.

Last night he woke up and walked into my bedroom, he stood there for

a few seconds then fell face first onto the bed, head down, butt

up...i knew he was asleep I got out of bed and attempted to pick him

up and he pulled away (eyes open) and just stared at me, so i tried

to talk to him, and tell him he was dreaming and that it was time

for bed, he would giggle this strange giggle, then cry with these

sobbing sounds...he wouldnt wake up, but his eyes were open and

glazed over. It was really kinda freaky. He then would shake all

over and yell "DONT TOUCH ME". Then laugh, then cry again.

He use to do this alot when he was younger, when he was over

stimulated, or if we took him to visit the inlaws in land... any

kind of stress or change and he would have a night fright. (he has

had maybe 4 episodes)

Trust me these are NOT nightmares.

My ? is.......have any of ur children experienced these? and if so

how do u deal with it?? Its quite frightning to look in the face of

ur child and know he isnt there (in a sence) and try and wake him up

and its so frustrating not to be able too.

He has no recolection the next day of ANYTHING that has gone on. I

tried to video tape him one night, but that was the night he stopped

having them...up untill last night, and Im sure it was the med.s.

Thanx for any feedback :)
