Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the feedback onthe Monarch School. I do appreciate it - anyone else have some input? So far I see that the benefits are: Lovely facility Good programs Kids meeting their goals The diadvantages are: Cost and the fact one will have incur the costs, time, and agony battling with the local sd to pay (been there done that) No typical peers Can anyone tell me if a child like my son would fit into Monarch? I am just wondering if the school tends to serve the more behavioral kids, or the kids that are quite severe. I do agree that my son needs typical role models, if not at school, in other settings. My son is probably considered right smack in middle of moderate to mild. Higher functioning than moderate, but I would not call him " high fucntioning " as he is not really conversational, mostly due to his auditory processing disorder. My old school district could not meet his needs - the regular ed class was too big, too stimuating, and he really needs 1:1 to learn the tougher academics, and the only other option at the school was a life skillsclass, which was too low for him - he is capable of learning academics like math, reading, literature, science and social studies. This is why we are homeschooling - it was the only way we could really meet his needs. We do supplement with outside activities for peer support; he generally deos okay with kids in the 5 year old range (kids about 3 years younger so so). Any ideas?
