Hi!

We did this with our youngest son, who is non-verbal. We noticed some very positive things from it: he was able to calm and self-regulate easier; he did a lot better with large groups of people, whether he knew them or not; we heard a lot more vocalizations -- and they were consonant-vowel, not just vowel; he did better at school -- those are things I can think of off the top of my head. He has been off it for almost a month now, and we notice a BIG difference -- and NOT for the better. He completed two 8-week cycles before Thanksgiving. Well, since then, he has NOT been as happy; not been able to handle crowds well at all; still doing well at school, but not as well as he had been doing as well as he had been when he was on the program. I am counting the days until we begin another cycle (9 days!), because I'm hoping it helps him again -- and maybe we'll survive all the holiday get-togethers...although I'm not holding my breath on that last part. Let's just say it's been a rough weekend from two family get-togethers, and I'm beat, to put it mildly.

Good points -- all the aforementioned, plus you get to keep the equipment, so you can redo the program whenever you want.

Bad points -- somewhere around weeks 3 - 5, your child might actually seem to get worse and not want to do the listening. It's a temporary phase that is best to just work through instead of stopping. Our therapist told us that was the brain readjusting to the training process. THE COST!! Sweet Mother of Pearl, it's expensive! We found it slightly cheaper at MTEC, Inc. than at Galvin, but it's still a big chunk of change to come up with for most of us. The reason we did it though, is because you do get to keep the equipment and redo it whenever you wish. So, if you can come up with the cash, consider it an investment, and plan to use it several times.
