Should still be pretty nice, would depend on the day and your tolerance but

chances are good you could play in the ocean. And shark attacks are

definately not normal here! LOL I think this is the first fatal one in many

decades. I saw a report saying that there are not really more attacks this

year just more publicity. That you are still more likely to be hit by

lightening or win the lottery than be attacked by a shark. It was a big shock

to me to see the boy killed here!

out here, but would love to go as a group if others would go...I know a few

of us have said we would~~I hadn't thought about swimming, but I'm game if it

, I am a local, all my life. I would not swim in this water for

nothing. The shark thing is enough to change my attitude. I have a new motto,

if I cant see the bottom, no way... I have two kids and I am happy school

started today. The lifeguards finished up yesterday. They will monitor some

but not for long. The place the two were attacked in NC is not that far from

here, maybe 2 hours. It is still a beautiful place to visit in September ,mid

70's to 80's in day , low to upper 60's at night. Sorry to burst your

bubble, O.

folks..... the little boy that was killed at Va Beach....... now 2

adults on NC outer banks..... i have lived in VA all my life and

gone to the NC SC beaches all my life too....i have never heard of so

many attacks, sightings..... you all be CAREFUL!

well, weather here in raleigh/durham at the end of september is usually

about 75 degree average, althought we COULD get a 95 degree day or a 60

degree day, it is very, very weird at that time of the year.

Can any of you in the Virgina Beach and Durham area tell me what the weather

is normally like the end of September. I was wanting to do some playing in

the ocean but it's occured to me that it may be too cold. I don't know how

long it says warm in that area. And I heard on the news today that a boy

fatally attacked by a shark at Virgina Beach in the past few days. Is this

" common " for that area. I've been hearing about a lot of shark attacks in

FL, but hadn't heard about any in N.C. or VA.

the beach from raleigh/durham is about 2-1/2 to 3 hours away.

, I don't know how common it is, but a man from DC was also

attacked and killed by a shark in NC this weekend.

Thank you, . Just heard today that there was a shark attack in N.C.

somewhere too. One killed and another injured. My daughter told me, " Mommy,

just don't go in the water. " I'm thinking I may have to take a dip anyway.

Maybe I'll just go calf deep in, though. Or set in the water as the tide rushes

in <grin>. I'm going to have to get in that ocean though! Don't think I can

keep from it.

Hi . Isn't the picnic at the beach? I saw some info somewhere that

indicated that we could swim but there was no life guard on duty. Someone

correct me if I'm wrong.

Another question regarding the picnic - - - What is the potty situation at the

picnic location? There will be bathrooms, won't there?

Thanks for the info Cheryl. I think I heard that the 2 (husband and wife) in

N.C. were only in waist deep water, too. Is that right? I tried finding info

on-line last night about the attack in Va Beach and couldn't find anything.

That was before I knew about the attack in N.C. I heard Harvey saying

something today on the radio about N.C. putting some type of sensor (that's

probably the wrong word, but maybe you N.C. folks will know what I'm talking

about) at the beach to detect when sharks are near. Anyone know anything about

that? I'm wondering why nothing like that has been done in FL if it can be

done.

The weather here is great during Sept/ Oct but the water does get cooler.

The days are warm, the nites may get cool where you want a sweater or light

jacket. Just depends on your body chemistry. You can go there and try the

water but many don't want to be in that cold of water. It is an individual

thing whether it is too cold or not.

There was another fatal shark attack yesterday at Avon, which is the Outer

Banks of NC. The husband, sadly enough, died and his wife is in critcal

condition. By my interpretation, that means stay the hell out of the water

for me. It's not worth the risk. Do a search and you can find the shark

attack report online. I forgot the addy.

I'm going to the Outer Banks in Oct and DO NOT plan on doing more than

walking along the shoreline. It's not worth it. I kinda need my husband and

my limbs!!!!

both attacks happened after 6 I think that is shark feeding time. They have

articles here with all the facts. The last fatal one here was like in 1607

and the total US attacks for the year is still average to below average. Also

just found out the father of the little boy goes to my church.

Wade and I went to Wilmington the day before my surgery and strolled the

beach and ate at a WONDERFUL dock side seafood restaurant. Matter of fact, I

think the name of it may have been Dock Side. Locals? Is there a

restaraunt/bar in Wilmington called " Dock Side? " It was the BEST, most

WONDERFUL seafood I've ever had in my entire life! I won't ever forget it,

I'll tell you that!

Sounds like that could be a possiblity, however, I would PREFER a prettier

would probably mess up my bypass and new little tummy. I think I may stay in

ankle deep water. Depends on if there are anymore between now and then. I
