You said they wouldn't work for your child every time someone responded. I think was going to send you some material to read but he obviously got busy with RL. I hope it is nothing terrible for his family. But regardless, it seemed to me that you were negative to whatever was said so saying more wasn't really worth the effort. Sometimes if people say "That won't work" more than a few times, it is easier to believe them and leave it at that. << As most of us we had to choose between options not being able to afford them all.>> Well, please know that I am hardly wealthy. We have 5 kids and my ds works 2 jobs so we can live in our little luxurious home. lol. I did not have an "ABA TEAM" of workers because A) we couldn't find anyone who wanted to do the work (2 people quit before they even bothered to show up) and I didn't have the money to pay them anyway. So I did everything myself and then in conjunction with the school. I was blessed to have landed in the lap of some really great teachers through the years. Only one or two I didn't care for or who didn't really try that hard with our ds. So it can be done, like anything one decides is worth the time and effort. And we did that. The cost to not do it was far more. Now years later, I am surprised at how people are able to find funding. The people I work for have done this and I am always surprised. Where were all these folks years ago, lol? Oh well, just my luck we are always ahead of the curve that way. But I suspect people can really do much better these days between school and MR/DD and various community funding opportunities. Guest guest
Yes, I was waiting for any response to my question about how to teach/ellicit motivation, remember? I was quite willing to learn and received assurances that it could be taught. I was earnestly waiting, but noone responded. But, I don't have an infinite amount of time. Our girl is going to school in the fall, we have to get going, and it just so happened that more biomed did fix the problem. Should I have waited for the improvement to come from some particular place or therapy? No, I'm going to take it from where it came. I do appreciate your take on this Roxanna and am curious about how ABA works. As most of us we had to choose between options not being able to afford them all. As far as the cost goes, I think both camps are equally expensive which is why people choose to do one or the other. And like most have wondered if we were missing something. My statement wanting to hear what you had to stay stands. ----- Original Message ----- From: kneeleee@... But I think we have to move beyond the "atta girls" and discuss some pertinent issues if we want to learn and ultimately help our kids, don't you? The best lists I have seen have many differing points of view which are discussed wholeheartedly without anyone getting personal. I can find LOTS of lists where everyone thinks just like me, but how would I ever learn anything else? I think this list is all bio-med. I even asked to be sure not long ago because that was the only thing anyone really discussed here and I thought maybe I was on a biomed list and hadn't realized it. Remember? That is when we briefly discussed ABA, dismissed because nobody could figure out how to explain something or other that I can't remember that you were questioning. But this list is all very much about what you agree with - chelation, etc. I don't really get the idea that anyone wants to discuss anything except bio-med. when the dog issue came up, that was what everyone responded to/about. Interesting that that was the only response or thoughts. However, all the same. I read them in a large group/one sitting so it was really obvious. Not a problem, just something easily noticed.
