Guest guest
Hi, I went to the Dr yesterday and had the packing removed from my ear. This past surgery was done my Dr Thedinger. Before surgery I was having Facial Nerve Problems, extreme ear pain, heachaches, dizziness, Vertigo, etc. I am now 2 weeks Post op and all I have is balance problems if I move to fast and a sore ear. The first week after surgery was the most painful of the 3 surgeries I have had in my left ear this year. This was the first surgery performed on me by Dr Thedinger. I ended up having the work the previous Dr had done completely removed and done over. Here is what my knew Dr found and corrected after being inside my ear for the first time. A man made prosthesis was removed that was shaped like a straight bar had been positioned in the extreme left side of my ear with only one end attached. The other end was flopping around in my ear and resting on my facial nerve most of the time. This was supposed to be some type of prosthesis. Dr Thedinger had no clue what the previous Dr's intention were for it, because of it's location. My outer ear canal was too narrow and curved, not allowing the canal to dry out as it should. Dr Thedinger widened the outer ear canal and I cannot remember the name he called it. My eardrum that was just built in January was severely retracted and was very thick and infected. There was only a quarter of the eardrum that was visible. He removed the infection and most of the eardrum and built a new eardrum. The was no air space on my middle ear at all. He had to remove scar tissue to get more airspace. After all this was done he placed a TORP in my ear and used some cartalige from outside my ear to hold it in place. I have Gel packing inside of my ear, so I cannot hear from it at all. In the past the only reason that I was hearing was because of Scar Tissue and the previous Cholesteatoma acting as conduit to the inner ear. I should not having been hearing out of that ear at all as I had no Ossicles, no Stapes Footplate and airspace and canal problems. Dr said that he really had no idea how much of my hearing he could restore, as I also have some sensineural hearing loss. The packing should dissolve within 4-6 weeks and I guess we will find out then. I already know that no matter what the results are that I will need Hearing Aids in both of my ears. I have sensineural hearing loss in my right ear also. I just want the infections and surgeries to stop ! 3 ear surgeries and all of the ear pain that I used to have has really taken a toll on me. I have forgotten what it was like to not walk around in pain all of the time and having the facial problems that I was having. Thanks for all of your support.
