WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Parents, family members, individuals with PDD, Autism, Asperger’s, Educators, Teacher’s assistants, 1 on 1 aids, Therapist, Social Workers, Parents, Child Care Providers, General Public

CONTACT HOURS: 5.5 hrs. CEU for Educators, administrators, & SLP’s will be available through Northern Ohio SERRC

Individual Development - will build awareness of how a child's temperament and developmental stages affect the parent-child relationship, brain development, recognizing the characteristics of different growth stages

Services and Supports - aids in the understanding of what services are available through schools, community, and state agencies with information on what they provide. Recognizing and building support systems for children and parents

Autism and Communication- Explore assessments, intervention, and useful strategies for parents, teachers, and related professionals. We will also take a look at stages of communication development to better understand where a child may be functioning

Introduction to Visual Support- A general overview of visual support to enhance daily living for a child with autism, for both home and school. Covering the importance of visual support in daily living skills. Why we utilize visual support for children with autism as well as other disorders and utilizing them in a time-efficient manner. Examples include schedules, icons, choice boards, behavior choices, games, social stories charts and more to promote independence.

Autism Advocacy Efforts at the State Level- This presentation will include an overview of the Ohio Autism Taskforce Recommendations, progress in making the recommendations a reality, pending legislation, and autism resources in Ohio

OCALI and Its Family Services Component- This session will provide a brief description of OCALI and its family services component including a discussion of the family- based initiatives OCALI is undertaking this year. OCALI is committed to supporting local parent/consumer groups and working with them and state and local agencies to help create the systems of support families need. Find out how you can participate.

SONDRA WILLIAMS: Is an adult with Autism and a mother to 4 children with Asperger’s. She serves as a board member of The Autism Society Ohio, was a voting member of the Ohio Autism task force appointed by the Governor. Sondra is a parent advocate trainee through the LEND program of Ohio State University. She has been asked to serve on the advisory board for OCALI (Ohio Center for Autism & Low Incidence.) She will be presenting at the 2006 National Autistic Society of America Convention July 11-16. She also is the author of Reflections of Self and has a DVD titled Define Me. Sondra has been speaking publicly for 6 years to help educate the public on Autism.
