Please note that there is an upcoming Autism Conference at

Landerhaven on June 19, 2006. Milestones Organization has been

putting together this conference for the past 4 years. I have

attended the past 2 conferences and have found them extremely

informative (it is also a great place to network with other parents

and professionals). They also have some great vendors at the

conference.

This year Milestones is taking nominations for the Milestones

Appreciation Award. You may nominate a special education or general

teacher, a speech or occupational therapist, a classroom aide, or any

other educator who has contributed to the progress of your child.

Award winners will be honored at the annual Milestones dinner on June

19, 2006 (after the conference).

New this year, Milestones is piloting a 5 day Teacher Training

Workshop on " How to Use ABA in the Public School Setting " . The target

population for the workshop is K-3 rd Grade educators and students. A

functioning classroom for 5 students with autism will be set-up

during the weeklong workshop, similar to the way TEACCH workshops are

organized. This student classroom will allow educators to observe ABA

instructors working with the students, and then have the opportunity

themselves to use the strategies with the students.

Milestones is currently looking for 5-10 children (K-3) with autism

to participate in the teaching training. The training is conducted

at Clara Westdropp on the west side of Cleveland (close to the

airport). Children would have to be available Monday through Friday

from 9-1 beginning on Monday, June 19, 2006 and ending Friday, June

23, 2006. Children need not have had prior exposure to ABA to

participate in this program.

If anyone is interested in attending the conference, nominating an

educator, or having their child participate in the teacher training,

please contact me at ddzlaw@....

Thank you.

Debbie
