I've had no allergies nor skin conditions, nor much of anything apart from ear trouble of course. There's no history of ear disease in the family either. I was once told that the long-term problems were problably the result of some birth condition. More recently it's been suggested that it could stem from an early head injury (some web information does cover this). It's also plausible because I had been knocked down by a truck as a toddler and the early hospital reports already contained a long list of conditions. I have been nerve deaf in the affected ear since childhood ( I'm 66) from a kick in the head playing football. My surgeon would not speculate, but, said it was entirely possible that the C'toma stemed from the head injury.
