Early Childhood Intervention - Summer Institute

2006

Please consider joining us for Kent State University's Early Childhood Intervention Program's first annual Summer Institute June 26th through June 30th. The mission of the ECIS program continues to be to increase the number of qualified personnel to serve young children with disabilities and their families. In particular, the program seeks to prepare personnel with the skills necessary to be effective members of interdisciplinary teams that operate from a developmental framework and that incorporate a family-guided approach to service delivery.

When: June 26th through June 30th

Where: Moulton Hall Ball Room - Kent State University, Kent, OH

Who: Anyone who works with young children with and/or without disabilities and their families.

How Much: The cost for each of the institute strands is $75.00 (total of $150.00 for the whole institute)

Graduate Credit: In addition to the registration fee - the cost for receiving graduate credit $375.00 for the Summer Institute. Receiving college credit is optional. Participants who wish to obtain college credit MUST attend the full Summer Institute and must complete 20-30 hours of outside work.

Meeting Degree and Licensure Requirements: If you are an ECIS major at Kent State you can contact your advisor to see if the Summer Institute can be used toward your master's degree or licensure. For non KSU students you need to contact your college/university advisor to determine if it would be accepted. A full syllabus for the Summer Institute will be posted in the next couple of week.

Participants can register for one and/or two topical strands and can choose to receive college credit. Participants should register online (see below) but will pay the registration and/or graduate credit fee at the door. Participants do not need to be enrolled at Kent State University in order to attend and/or receive graduate credit. At this time the registration fee will be used to cover conference costs, but if enough participants register we'll also have snacks available throughout the day and door prizes.

As more information becomes available, we will post notices on this website. If you have any questions or concerns about the Summer Institute contact Dr. Kristie Pretti-Frontczak (kprettif@...). If you have questions about logistics and/or registering please contact Nibert (anibert@...).

Remember, those who wish to receive graduate credit will have to complete 20-30 hours of outside work before September 15th. The task will be to participate in a research study regarding the AEPS® and to complete five (5) Child Observation Data Recording Forms on young children who are developing typically, at risk, or with identified disabilities. More information to follow.
