Welcome to the group , I'm also in a similar situation to

yourself I am having my 2nd surgery on Friday 22nd Oct for

recurrance c-toma in my right ear and when this has healed have to

have surgery for c-toma in my left ear. I also have small children

and when I had my surgery last year my oldest child was 3 and my

youngest was 15 months old it is a bit of a struggle but not being

able to hear them properly is the worst. What was really strange

was when I came out of hospital both my children didn't really

bother with me, it was as if they knew that Mummy needed rest.

Luckily I had the support of my husband who took time off work to

look after all three of us (that was interesting....) after friday

he will have it all to do again (lucky him!!). Anyway good luck for

November 2nd and stay with the group it offers alot of advice and

support.

Zoe.

3 new members overnight, I think thats a record. Helo

to Bon, jaylynnsmommy, and heavydmf28. Sorry that you

needed to find us, but glad you did. Feel free to ask

questions, however expect to get to the point ansers

that you may not like. We don't suger coat anything

here. C-toma is something not to overlook, it can be

deadly if not treated, the only way to treat c-toma

is by surgery. Many have come into this group that

have had too many surgerys, which is a pet peeve with

me. Please keep in mind that most of the Docs out

there are good, however there are some that are not

good, they are into it for the money. One of the

first things I like to ask is, are you seeing a ENT or

a Otologist. If you don't know what a Otoloigst is,

they are ENT's that only work on Ears. This is the

type of Doc you should seeing unless there are none in

your area. If you like let us know where you live and

someone should be able to point you in the right

direction.

Hi - I am 24 and have 3 kiddos at home ages 5, 2 1/2 and 6 months. My youngest, Natalee, was just 5 months when I had my last surgery. What procedure are you having done? A CWU or CWD? I've only had 3 surgeries so far - one at 14 (CWU), one at 15 (CWD) and one in August (tympanoplasty). I'm due for reconstruction in the next 2-4 months. Why have you had so many procedures done? Have you had complications? Did the C-toma continually grow back? Just curious - 16 surgeries - I couldn't imagine.......

Hi Zoe/,

One thing I didn't mention in my first reply to was that daycare helped out tremendously!! My husband goes to work at 6:00 and could not be to work at 6 AND at daycare at 6 when they open so my aunt/grandmother would come by around 7:00 and take them to daycare for me. I stayed at my mom's house until Mark got off work, picked up the kids and came to get me. If there is anyone (daycare, family, friend) that you could leave your baby with or that could stay with you during the day, that would be great. It's really suprising how much pressure is put on your ears that you don't realize typically is there when lifting or holding a small child. My last surgery was a tympanoplasty to repair my ear drum and I couldn't risk picking up any of my 3 kids. It was awful but the older two seemed to know something was wrong - especially my 5 year old. If I was sitting they could crawl onto my lap and I could hold them without much pain. That helped. Good luck!
