Zoe,

I dealt with the drainage for approximately 15 years (I'm only 24). Nothing I did ever really seemed to help. I went once a month to an ENT to have my ears suctioned but it only lasted a few days at most. The only thing I could ever come up with was using cotton and carrying around Q-tips everywhere I went. Drops did nothing for me and neither did oral antibiotics so I completely understand where you're coming from. It was a bother at times carrying around cotton 24/7 but it was the only thing that worked for me. Good luck in your quest finding a solution.

This is probably a stupid question but I thought I would post to see how others cope with ear drainage. I had my first surgery on my right ear for C-toma in Aug 03, I'm due to have my second operation for c-toma recurrance (even though I've had CWD)on 22nd Oct. My problem is I also have c-toma in my left ear which obviously cannot be operated on until my right ear has healed. My left ear started leaking (smelly stuff) several days after my first op on my right ear so it has now been draining constantly for over 14 months. I've had several kinds of drops and antibiotics but nothing seems to work. When I use the drops they don't seem to soak in (even after laying down for 45 mins) the minute I get up they just ooze out again. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions apart from wearing

cotton wool or have I just got to accept that this is the way I have to live for the next 6-8 months before they can op?Sorry to have a moan but I'm feeling a little low and anxious right now as op is next Friday and I now have a rash on my neck which my GP says is probably a nervous rash!!!Zoe.

Unfortunately that is the nature of the beast. Removing the c-toma

will stop the draining. Other than that, invest in cotton balls.

Me too I had to carry cotton and qtips when I had the

infection in my ear from the first ctoma in my ear,

then the 2nd ctoma I didn't have near as much, and the

third time I had no drainage.

If I understand right Ctomas don't always come from an

infection, sometimes it is poor eustacian tube

function pulling the ear into a vacuum which stetches

things out and causes the skin to grow

inappropriately.

The main factors that cause C-toma are a perferated

ear drum, or bad E-tubes combined with water getting

into to the inner ear. The water klings the dead skin

cells together causing or creating the c-toma ball....
