Terry Kottman, PhD, NCC,RPT-S, LMHC, is the director of TheEncouragement Zone, a center where sheprovides play therapy training, counseling,coaching, and “playshops†for adults. Terryregularly presents workshops on play therapy,activity-based counseling, counseling children,and school counseling to state, national, andinternational organizations. She spent 8 yearsas a professor of counselor education at theUniversity of Northern Iowa and 5 years as aprofessor of counselor education and directorof the Child and Family Resource Clinic at theUniversity of North Texas. She has worked as aspecial education teacher and has two masters’degrees — one from the University of Texas atDallas in Special Education and one fromColorado College in Elementary Teaching.Dr. Kottman developed Adlerian playtherapy, an approach to counseling childrenthat combines the ideas and techniques ofIndividual Psychology and play therapy.She is the author of Partners in Play: An AdlerianApproach to Play Therapy and Play Therapy: Basics andBeyond; she is the co-author of Guidance andCounseling in the Elementary and Middle Schools withDr. Jim Muro; co-author of Adventures inGuidance with Drs. Jeff Ashby and Don DeGraaf;and co-editor of Play Therapy in Action: A casebookfor Practitioners with Dr. Schaefer.She recently finished writing the second editionof Partners in Play. She has written many journalarticles and book chapters on play therapy,school counseling, counseling with childrenand families, and perfectionism.Terry is also ’s mother and Rick’swife — her most important and favorite roles.

In this very experientialworkshop, you will learn play therapyand coaching strategies that you can use forself-renewal and for working with adolescentand adult clients on self-understanding, selfnurturing,self-esteem, and self-confidence.

We will explore adventure therapy/activegame activities, art techniques, sand trayactivities, playful life coaching techniques,and Adlerian strategies. At the end of thisworkshop you will have a whole new toolboxfilled with ideas you can go back to yourpractice and use the next day! Wear comfortableclothes and be prepared to play, play, play.
