Guest guest
Hi All, Read the posts regarding allergies with great interest, have just been wondering recently whether Trent's ear infections could also be caused or irrated by the fact that he never blows his nose - will wipe it when he has a cold, but never actually blows it. Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks Jan, mother of Trent, 20 yo with Down Syndrome from Australia.
Guest guest
Hi Jan There was a brief mention of nose blowing a while back. I was one of those kids who couldn't blow their nose and I still haven't managed it. I tried copying what the others did but nothing ever happened. Years later, ENT told me it was because my Eustachian tubes were stuck fast and never opened - probably since birth. I had a couple of minor surgical procedures to try and correct but they didn't work. The problem with the Eustachian tubes meant that I did have a lot of ear infections which for several years were treated with weekly penicillin injections. My eardrums were also perforated for much of the time. I've never had any allergies though. Guest guest
G,day Jan Midget never blows his nose, he too will just wipe it. He said that it hurts his ears to blow his nose. He too is allergic to cows, horses, cockies, cats and dogs (all the things he loves) He was put on periactin (2 a day) until things settled now he is on one at night. These are available over the counter, however, on script they are only $3.80 with his health care card. They also fall under the categorie of migraine preventatives. Speaking of which, Midget suffers on a regular basis (he is 11) these have only occured since his last surgery. Is this common? What put of Aussie do you guys live in? we live in Queensland. Please get back to me guys on the migraines? It will be interesting to know before we go to Rocky to see his ped> Thanks Deb (mum of Midget AKA Nick) blocked nose/allergies > Hi All, > > Read the posts regarding allergies with great interest, have just > been wondering recently whether Trent's ear infections could also be > caused or irrated by the fact that he never blows his nose - will > wipe it when he has a cold, but never actually blows it. > > Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. > > Thanks > > Jan, mother of Trent, 20 yo with Down Syndrome from Australia. > > > > >

Is this common? What put of Aussie do you guys live in? we live in Queensland. Hi, My son began suffering from headaches after his first surgery, too. I know this group is not too into alternative medicine, and I agree that is not the way to go with a cholesteatoma, however, I did find something that helped with the headaches. I took my son to a chiropractor with a cranial manipulation specialty. I saw her brochure somewhere that talked about people having headaches after surgeries involving the skull...it had a bit explaining how there is some energetic flexibility between the different plates of the skull and how surgery can inhibit that. Well, I don't know if that is true or not, but I did take my son to try the treatment and it worked. The headaches immediately got much less frequent, when one came on, I took him again, and really pretty quickly they stopped altogether. But after the next surgery, they came back so I took him straight away for the treatment and they went away much sooner than before, same with the third surgery only he had only one or two before they went away that time. After the 4th surgery and following, they didn't ever re-occur. For what it's worth... Marie
