Guest guest
Hi Kathy Ear infection would cause general earache. As a ctoma becomes more advanced it can cause a lot of pain, often starting with stabbing pains in the ear and a dull ache in the mastoid area behind the ear - in time, just about everything else can become affected too. With him being so young and if the ctoma is at a fsirly early stage, he may possibly be reacting to the discomfort caused by pressure or blockage (sometimes a sensation of the ear feeling very full as if it's about to burst) made worse by sleeping on the ear - or something like that Phil 4 yr old son My 4 yr old son had a cholesteatoma removed 10 months ago. He had some ear infections, he never had the draining or balance problem that some say. He taught himself to ride a bike last summer. Cat scan showed another growth in March. Another surgery is schedueled for May. If I don't give my son motrin before he goes to bed, he wakes up telling his ear hurts. The doc say's it should not hurt?????? Is there pain in the ear with this???? I wish I would have found this site last year!!!! Thanks Kathy
Guest guest
Thank you, Phil It's very hard for my son to explain how it feels, he only knows that it hurts. > Hi Kathy > > Ear infection would cause general earache. Guest guest
Hi, My son was diagnosed just before turning 4. By the time the surgery happened, 3 months after diagnosis, he was having pain around the clock. I carried Tylenol in my purse and every 4 hours, like clockwork, he would tell me that his ear hurt and I would give him another dose of tylenol. I'm not sure why it took so long to get to the surgery. It did take us a little while before we found a surgeon we were happy with, but all the surgeons we saw kept saying, "Oh, there is no big rush with this. We have plenty of time." When the surgery was done, the surgeon came out and said it was the biggest cholesteatoma he had ever seen, covering every surface and nook and cranny of the inner ear. And he lost his little hearing bones. I will always think it should have been scheduled sooner. Marie
