Guest guest
Hi , My reconstruction was done through the ear canal. Recovery wasn't bad at all. So much easier than when they cut behind the ear to remove the c-toma. <purr_30@...> wrote: Hey Kimi,Thanks so much. Now I just sit and wait for the recovery to be complete so I can get the reconstruction surgery done on the other ear.Have you ever heard of going through the canal for the reconstruction rather than the cut behind the ear? Guest guest
Hi , You are just the girl I want to speak to. I am going for a reconstruction on April 13th. I just got called today... Tell me about your surgery, how long before you knew if it was successful, how it "sounds" in your reconstructed ear, did you have packing, how much did your hearing improve? I had a CWD in May 2002, and last fall, my surgeon finally felt that my ear was healed well enough for this to be done. At first they didn't hold any hope of being able to do it. Guest guest
Hi Lynn, I'm so excited to hear that your reconstruction has been scheduled. Great News!! My reconstruction was in July 2001. I did have packing and it was removed during my 4 week post op visit. Right after they removed the packing, I had a hearing test that confirmed that my hearing had improved. It showed my hearing to be in the "normal" range (that's much better than it was before my c-toma removal surgery). It continued to get better and got to the point that I could hear as good out of my surgery ear as I could out of my good ear. Unfortunately I can not remember if I could hear anything before the packing was removed. ( I blame this on being over 40 but I do remember that my reconstruction was officially called a success at my 4 week post op visit when my doctor reviewed my hearing test results. I hope your reconstruction is as successful. Good Luck to you, Re: Att Re: Reconstruction Hi , You are just the girl I want to speak to. I am going for a reconstruction on April 13th. Guest guest
Thank you for your reply . It seems a long time coming... When I initially sought treatment for my hearing loss, I never imagined it would take over 3 years to get to this point. My c-toma was discovered during a tympanoplasty/ possible stapedotomy... for what they believed was otosclerosis. It was in feb 2001 that I found out upon waking up from surgery that I had c-toma... I was rebooked for the CWD, and following that, they were not optimimistic about reconstruction, due to the damage. So I am really excited that they will try. I was just wondering if you have tinitus, and if you noticed any difference in the tinitus following your reconstruction? The idea of packing for a month isn't attractive for me... I work in Health Care and working with packing isn't such a great idea. What kind of work do you do? Following my CWD I was off for a month because of the packing..
