Hi ,

It's normal to be scared. When they are all done removing your c-toma (once

you have healed) no one but you will know anything has been done. What

exactly the doctor does depends on how extensive the c-toma is and they only

have some idea of that before the surgery. Surgery often takes longer than

they originally plan. Surgery is the only method for getting rid of a c-toma

and putting it off for a long time is not a good idea because it will only

cause more damage. Your insurance should cover it because it is NOT

elective surgery - it's the only way to deal with it.

We are here for you and your questions.

Hi -

I was scared (and still am) for my 5 yr. old son who is getting

surgery next week. From what I can understand, the surgeon will do

an incision behind the ear to remove the c'toma. But we have been

getting alot of information and support from this group. The people

here are great and very informative. If you have any questions, no

matter how lame they may seem just ask away. I will post the outcome

of my son's surgery next Saturday or Sunday to let you know exactly

what to expect. Take care, - Dee

It is scary but it is like has always been shared a reality of c-toma. My 10

year old daughter had surgery 2 months ago and had a total replacement of fake

hearing bones. She can hear for the first time out of that ear! This list has

been so supportive. Post every day if you need to and know we care and are here

for you! Sallie very grateful for this amazing list mom to Kara 10 with c-toma

I am glad you are taking care of this and remember to be monitored for the rest of your life. I had surg. on my left ear in May and my doctor went throught my ear. I had surg. on my right ear and he cut behind my ear, like, right in the fold. You can't even tell I had anything done. I must be one of the lucky ones because after reading these e-mails I haven't experienced any of these problems. Ask lots of questions and take care of yourself.
