Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone else has had their eardrum deteriorate on them. I am wondering because I have had five ear surgeries so far (only one really for the c-toma). I had tubes put in my ears once in my left and twice in my right. I have the c-toma in my right ear and so far four times I have had my eardrum rebuilt because it never healed from the tubes in it. I am wondering if anyone has and if you have did your body take the patch. It is getting annoying and the doctors aren't totally sure what to do about my eardrum. Guest guest
Hi Shalynn, When my doc went in to remove my ctoma he said the eardrum just disintegrated. He used a patch from the facia (sheath) of a muscle above my ear. It seems to have taken very well. He has put two tube in since and I've had 2 recontruction operations and the eardrum still looks good. Guest guest
Hi Shalynn I had an eardrum made from a piece of neck muscle a few months back. I haven't seen it, naturally, but the doctor did draw a diagram for me. Basically it is a semicircle shape which is only half the size of what a normal eardrum would be (the bottom half) and the rest of the opening is made up of a wall of cartilage. He said the reason he did this is because a smaller eardrum will function just as efficiently and far less chance of a smaller graft failing or becoming damaged in some way. I don't know if this is a typical procedure but it seems to make sense - and so far so good. Phil I was wondering if anyone else has had their eardrum deteriorate on them. Guest guest
Hello, Both of my new eardrums came from muscle near my temple and they seem to be working just fine....it has only been 4 months for the left and not even 1 month on the right, but so far so good. Take care, Melody Phil <psmorris@...> wrote: Hi Shalynn I had an eardrum made from a piece of neck muscle a few months back. I haven't seen it, naturally, but the doctor did draw a diagram for me.
