Yeah, it made my commute interesting when I was taking the bus too LOL!! I remember the week they were taking surveys on the bus: "how many transfers does it take you to get from point A to point B and how long?" LOL! Of course there was no room for "yeah, but..." comments, so I put 3 busses and 3 hrs LOL!!

I didn't stay to see my Curves get it. They are supposed to get it "May/June" and I left mid-April basically. I just really needed to get out of there, get my head screwed back on about exercise and I can go back at a later time. I figure I'll take at least a year off. We'll see, I might really want to try the new gym idea and that would probably come with a 12 month contract....

Congrats on your loss last week and hope things work out with your daughter and the guy-situation. He sounds like a joy to be around.

great to hear from you Eileen. A loss is a loss no matter how small. I have heard great things about curves. I need to check out the one close to me. Sorry you are having computer problems. That sounds really annoying. boo on the married boyfriend and his attitude. Good job not yelling. Eileen <ebax@...> wrote: I haven't been around much, so thought I'd check in. I am signed up to a lot of lists, and at one point was up to 500+ messages. Now, I have some sort of weird hardware problem with the screen on my laptop where the messages are "ghosting" over each other. It can really give me a headache if I spend too much time on the computer. So, this should be an excuse to sit less and move more! And, hopefully, take my machine in for repair this weekend. Last weigh-in, the (digital) scale bounced around a lot, so I think she gave me the benefit of the doubt and posted a 0.6 loss. However, I'm guessing it was more like 0.2, so I need to get my rear in gear. I'm considering Curves - there's one about a mile from here, but it's the opposite direction from work,

and of course, I'm dealing with transit which makes things more, uh, interesting. I need to check hours and see if I can get over there before work. Last time, I was in there, a couple years ago, they had a changing room but no shower. There IS a shower in restroom at work, but frankly, in 6+ years, I've never seen anyone use it. A couple people have used it to change clothes (a LOT of commuting bicyclists at work). I think I'll ask around. , I'm very intrigued by the computerized, personalized program that they are implementing. If you can attach a computer to something, I'm automatically more interested (grin). I think I related how I was pleasantly surprised by my new doctor last week. I'm back on thyroid and taking a multivitamin. My fatigue is not due to low iron, which has been a problem

in the past. In fact, he said my iron level was XLNT. Husband said he thought there were two factors for the improvement. I am/was a pretty serious blood donor, about every 10 weeks. I was always right on the border for the blood test, and after several deferrals, I just decided to take a year off. Also, I get what we call here "salad base" every week. Sometimes, it's romaine or butter lettuce; sometimes, it's spinach; we trade off week to week. So, we pretty much have spinach every night on alternate weeks. Anyway, I expect the thyroid will help with fatigue, plus I do need probably another hour or so of sleep a night - I'm getting about 6.5 now. Have had some drama with daughter (20yo), dating a 21-yo who's "sorta married." He was "tricked" into marriage by a girlfriend who faked a

pregnancy and told him a week after wedding - oops, oh well. At least, that's the story I'm hearing. He's now filed for legal separation. He's annoying, but I don't have to like him - I'm not dating him. However, I told him the marriage is a deal-breaker for me, and always will be. I told him the "legend in his own mind" attitude was also pretty irritating. Plus the fact that he told my mother "I'm really quite a catch." Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. The amazing thing is we are all talking, not screaming. There have been no big, emotional outbursts. But holding it together has been one of the hardest things I've ever done. OK, time to get some movement in, at least walk to the train station..... Eileen in OR

I get that far behind just being off-line from 4 in the afternoon until

5 the next morning, and that's not couting the blogs and message boards

I follow. At least thanks to our rule of No food at the computer that

I'm not eating when I'm roaming the web. :)

A loss is a loss, so take it with a smile. LOL

That's more than the 3 times a week *we* have it! My guys start singing

the Popeye song every time I serve it.

Anyway, I expect the thyroid will

> help with fatigue,

Good luck. Even when my lab showed I was hyper-thyroid I was just as

fatigued as when the TSH was over 6. The doc blamed the double whammy of

menopause with the thyroid, even though my TSH levels going back 25

years showed I was hypo all those years, anyway, according to the new

guidelines.

We all *need* 8 hours, just to rebuild our tissues every night.

Hopefully you'll soon be back to normal.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

If my own son acted like that I would set him straight right away! Then

again, these kids always act differently around their friends than they

are around their families.

Me too..... been busy with End of the Year Shool stuff, and having to work extra hours this week again.

I have no idea what would be causing that unless your video card is going. I don't do alot with laptops. Right now I am dealing with my dad's computer.... ugh more problems.

My husband's 90 year old aunt is in the hospital and we're running

around like headless chickens between the 2 houses and the hospital. She

went in for her foot (broken toe and cellulitis to the knee) and was

supposed to come home yesterday but the doc felt something in her

abdomen now and she had a CAT scan last night. We'll find out what's

I love the idea of that tattoo - what a wonderful idea. I will be 53 in a couple weeks and my sister turns 50 in April. We just passed the 5th anniversary of Dad's sudden passing. We are considering going together and getting a tattoo in Dad's memory. Although Dad would probably be opposed to the idea...

As far as checking in, I haven't been because I haven't made my health a priority. I was truly dreading my weigh-in, because I haven't added any walks to the light rail, no trips to Curves, and snacking etc. has been out of control. On top of that, we went to 's last night and I was hoping to get chili and a baked potato. When they didn't have any potatoes, well, they always have fries. Imagine my surprise when I eked out a 0.2 loss! Imagine my sister's surprise when she missed last week, because she said she ate and drank her way through San Francisco and she still lost 2 pounds! She said they did a lot of walking, but she was dreading the scale just like me.

So, recommitted, I will do a long walk in the neighborhood tomorrow. It's been raining, but I'm a native Portlander. I don't melt in the rain.

Everyone have a great week.

Remember, you just had a baby a few months ago. Your hormones are

entirely changed right now, and if you're breastfeeding, they're still

fluctuating wildly.

If you *are* breastfeeding you'll need a heck of a lot more water than

that to drink to keep both you and your baby from getting dehydrated.

Wow Anne ur story sounds so similiar to mine....except u have had more lead

adjustments than me. Before my lead adjustment I was getting stimulation in

stomach n ribs. It sucked! My IDET was a failure, I LOVED my job n loved

working. My injury was in 2002 and I was only 30 yrs old. I had tons of life n

working left in me. I haven't worked since n now workers comp is still trying to

say that I am fine n can work, jerks! Wouldn't it be nice if those adjusters

whom have never even met us could walk in our shoes for a bit....rather than

make decisions based on a piece of paper they read (which wasn't even complete

info).

Hey Mike!

How are you, my friend? I hope you are doing ok. How is your faimly doing?

Hope great.

You should be immensouly proud of yourself, Mike. I know that I am. Your

determination and dedication started this group, while your compassion,

kind-hearted personality and concern for others make this group the beautiful

living breathing thing that touches all of us.

I have expereinced folks crying to me from pain, and sadness...who had no

where else to turn...they do now.

I have experienced folks crying to me from laughing so hard....who didn't

laugh that hard in years...since no one " really " understood them until now.

I have gained many friendships from our group, Mike. for this....I thank

you.

Good morning Mike,

I'm here but moving slow since the visit to the spinal doctor. I've

been going through a lot of pain but at least now we're in a direction

of sorts for getting this issue resolved. I see the next doctor on Feb

10th. The biggest issue of all is I was not diagnosed correctly so

they were guessing. My nerves are damaged (we knew that from previous

RX) but at least it is a starting point. The surgeon had said it is

highly doubtful PT will occur because of the nerve damage and where it

is. (T9 - L6)

Well wish I could say it was a pain free day but that has been far from the

truth. I tried to get some cleaning done yesterday and I guess it got the better

of me. I have been in a lot of pain today in a particular spot in my hip and

down the back of my leg.

So today I have been trying to be careful not to add insult to injury! The

Lidoderm patches help somewhat and I have had to ice it down when I get a

chance. I just hope its very temporary. The SCS does not seem to be touching it

much at all so I don't know if its a muscular thing or what.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

Checking in

Hi all

Sorry for being absent from the list, but it has been a month of mind bending

happenings for me.

I spent 3 of the last 4 weeks in hospital. The first admission came when my

blood glucose dropped like a bomb, down to 1.2 mmol/l and that was after I has

tested at 6.9 so went into Dairy Queen and had a Butterscotch Sundae just to

keep it up as we were running late after taking the new 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan

back to the dealership so it could be detailed and delivered to us on Tuesday. I

never made it home, my blood sugars tanked to 1.2 and I was driving on the main

highway. I managed to pull into a pull out and get stopped and I remember

nothing after that until I woke up in the hospital. I had pneumonia on top of it

all so they pushed a lot of IV antibiotics pushed through my veins. 5 days later

the released me from the hospital. Unfortunately the pneumonia was percolating

in my lungs came back with a vengeance and the ambulance picked me up at home

again. This time it was a rush trip with the lights and siren going. This time

though, as the paramedics were getting me ready to go Hazel came up and said I

would not be welcome back at the house as she does not want to be looking after

a sick husband for the rest of her life. So I was tossed out riding on a

stretcher.

So more antibiotics and this time we worked on my pain control and we got it

straightened out. This time I was discharged to move into my new apartment in

the city. took me to her house where I could rest and get to the

computer. The last thing I remember was getting up from the computer to get some

water. and came home to me sprawled out on the floor. Thankfully

their house is just around the corner from the hospital. Short trip for the

paramedics. The next thing I remember was 's voice calling for me. This

time along with a low blood sugar they tell me I had a couple of mini strokes.

The CT Scan showed new areas of dead brain cells. So they put me in the ICU for

5 days This time Hazel brought up two suitcases and a shopping bag and

reiterated the " Dear " message. The nurses in the ICU could not believe

their ears and they escorted her right out of the unit and called in the

Hospital Social Worker. That solved a lot of problems. After I left the ICU they

put me on the 4th floor where they are used to cases like mine. The social

worker came and met with my daughter and I and we drew up a Personal

Directive that put as my official next of kin and official agent for me

when I get sick and can't do things.

They finally let me out of the hospital and I moved into my new apartment. It

is small but fully furnished, kitchen pots and pans, sheets and stuff right down

to the knives and forks. The rent includes utilities, cable, so it is a wrapped

up package for $615.00 / month.

I am not out of the woods yet though, I am attempting to get my main computer

here from Irvine, but when we make plans to go there, flu gets in the way.

Hopefully we will get it this week. We also have to find a storage lockup to put

most of my stuff in. I have mentioned my library before and there is not enough

room in the apartment for all of the books, so some will also have to be stored.

So, basically I am finally out of the hospital for now but have two doctors

appointments this week.

So dear friends, I may not be on the net much as the laptop is very slow.

Blessings to all of you

Fr. Dave

PS

My pain control now consists of 80 mgm of OxyContin in the morning and

bedtime, for breakthrough pain I have Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) up to 4 mg every

four hours. What is nice is that I do not have to take it very often

Tragically, these sorts of things have happened/are happening in

various forms to countless people in situations like ours, across the

whole face of this world.

We get blamed for being sick. We get doubted, made the subject of

outrageous accusations/assumptions which are often based on the most

fundamentally ignorant and/or selfish of true reasons, we get

unceremoniously dumped out in the cold dark -- a reward, apparently,

for all we have endured not just for ourselves, but for those who we

*THOUGHT* loved us.... :-(

I really, really want to have a focus on things of greater hope &

positivity than that right now....but unlike some people, those of us

on this list don't have the luxury of ignoring reality. Facing that

reality is a necessary step on the road to overcoming it.

We're all focused on the economic crisis these days, but if you ask me

a far greater crisis of compassion exists.

I'm thumb-typing on a touch screen here and desperately need to try to

get some more sleep but I keep hearing of people who have undergone

things in recent months that seem to parallel my own hair-raising

trials in that time (which are still ongoing)....and sympathy doesn't

even begin to cover it, Dave.

You are far from alone and this will not stand.

Fr. Dave, I had wondered what happened to you. Had wondered whether

to ask Rick about you--so happy you're back! " Mind bending " is

putting it mildly! It's wonderful that you're in physically better

shape now. I join those who send concern and most optimistic

thoughts for you as you begin yet another new life. Yes, it is

comforting that you have for support. If you decide to drop

out on us again, would it be possible for her to send a brief note to

let us know how you are?

To other really-old-timers who might remember, I haven't posted

anything for several years, but lurk and read daily. My son is

coping fairly well with his ReA and I spend my emailing time being

I have been out of touch for a while and just learned of this situation. I

definitely join the others in saying that I care very much for you as my

friend through these past years and I am SO SORRY this has happened.

I know we are all so far from you but you do have us!!!!

And you have God who is NEVER far from you.

Thanks for all the sharing and help you have been for me. you have always

been a blessing and still are...

LOVE AND HUGS

YOUR friend,

310 was my highest in 2004/2005 and the start of my journey. You can do this: one step at a time, literally.

When I first started logging my steps, I was lucky to get in the 3000-5000 range per day and now I am up in the 10000-15000+ per day range.

Keep it up!

I am dranking my water.. and moving more .. I only did 10 minutes yesterday.. so upset with my self about that.. but I am going to do this.. my first weight lost goal is 33lbs. my over all goal is to be under 200. I can and will do this.. thanks for the support.. and all the help..
