Hi Debbie,

As you are under his care and he has not got you well then it is

obviously a bad thing! I'm assuming 100mcg thyroxine? A full replacement

dose is often higher than this.

Quick explanation -A healthy thyroid makes 90% T4 and 10% T3 along with

small quantities of other thyroid hormones. Most of the T4 will be converted

to T3 in the liver. Progesterone and oestrogen are part of the regulating

mechanism with oestrogen binding thyroid hormones out of use ( oestrogen

dominance is a bad thing) After being hypo for a while and being treated

with T4 alone ( T4 is relatively inert- it has to convert to T3 to be of

use) the body can lost it's ability to convert enough T4 into T3. Hence the

need to use Armour ( which contains everything) or replace some of the T4

with T3. see Dr. Peatfields book' Your thyroid and how to keep it healthy

'for a fuller explanation available from the site library.

Re professor weetman he is my consultant is this a good thing or bad

thing ?.. in the ad that went in paper it seemed he was the good

guy ?.. and as im new what is t3 ?or t4 ?.. have never been given my

results ?... always been told to go up a dose etc .. the side effects i

get are i suppose down to the meds i have no periods ( which doesnt

upset me lol ) and i suffer with sleep apnea at min which they tested

me for ... and insomnia any ideas for any reliefs and is it doing my

body harm with not having periods if i want children can i still have

them ?... its all new to me am on 100 mcgs a day ..

All guideance greatfully recieved..........

Debbie

OooEr! Simone. That must be so frustrating, because most of the self help documents are in word. Why can't you get word?

Simone, it is always best to order up to 3 drums of Armour if you can afford it. That way, you only pay for one shipping fee. Go for the $7.50 fee, you get it within the following 7 days or so. Also, it pays to get larger tablets than you are taking because you can cut them with a pill cutter and they go further.

Would it help if I posted the details of how to use Armour in an email if you cannot open word, because you need to know exactly how you should be taking it. It is not just a case of popping a tablet into your mouth each day.

If that's a general question, I feel fantastic, but I have been taking Armour for almost 4 years now. I think the majority of people going over to natural thyroid extract would tell you how much better they feel. This, i believe, is because Armour contains ALL the thyroid hormones our body needs so we don't have to worry about say, converting the inactive thyroxine into the active T3. T3 is what we need to keep going.

Inhousepharmacy has too many problems. You have to pay VAT I believe and also there can be problems with customs. www.internationalpharmacy is the better choice - with less worry.

It's true, my last order got held up in customs. But that could happen

to any package from anywhere. Do you have any idea why inhousepharmacy

should be particularly prone to it?

On the plus side, their customer support is good, and they've just

started stocking hydrocortisone, because I asked them to :-)

I still like them. But I agree, internationalpharmacy.com is a better

first choice.

Unfortunately i have a software called 'works' that does not open word

documents..bummer..:)

I have just recently started taking spatone (water iron in little

sachets - 4mg per sachet) and biocare 15 mg iron( easy to absorb)...and

B12 and folic acid..i take the spatone in orange juice for the vitamin

c. I wondered if this was enough or do you still recommend me taking

the ferrous sulphate from my gp.

Thankfully i love my fish and lamb..so will continue to indulge..:)

Hi Simone,

You can get a 'word viewer 2003'(google it) that will allow you to

view word documents.

It's free

Hi Simone

The Vitamin C in a glass of orange juice is negligible. You need large doses of Vitamin C when taking iron supplements. Spaton is helpful and is good for those people unable to take Ferrous Sulphate, but you would need much larger doses. 15 mgs tablets of iron is a maintenance dose only. You may need to build up to 200 mgs Ferrous sulphate x 3 times a day, but do this gradually.

>Thanks Sheila, Dee and Adele for the advice..how fantastic that now i

can access the files with 'wordviewer 2003'...

Sheila will go to the pharmacy and get ferrous sulphate and see how my

system tolerates it..if it's a no-no..then i think i will stick with

spatone with powdered vitamin c...and hopefully my ferritin climbs up

steadily..i do feel i am one of those people that needs maintenance

iron as whenever i stop supplementing with iron..it only takes a few

sor so for my ferritin to drop..i most likely have low stomach acid.

Have a wonderful day all..:)

Hi Simone

Go to our FILES on this forum and scroll down until you see "How to Use Armour Thyroid". Read ALL of that document and make sure you understand everything if you are needing to go down the road of self medication. We are not mediclaly qualified, but we can only tell you what we have found from our own experience and what works for us.

If there is anything you don't understand, please just shout, and never treat yourself in any other way than is recommended in that File. There is all the informaiton about Armour there - and there are many of us who get our Armour from International Pharmacy.

Can you tell us the results of your other thyroid blood results and also, have you done the Adrenal Questionnaire to see whether you might also have an adrenal problem. You should do this and if you do have a problem, you need to boost your adrenals first before starting Armour, otherwise, you will be wasting your time and your money because no amount of thyroid hormone replacement will work if you have low adrenal reserve.

Good luck.

I think I'm right in saying that Armour has lactose in it. Perhaps it

wouldn't be suitable in that case. Wait for someone to come along who

knows more than me. They'll put you straight.

Hi Simone

Go to our website www.tpa-uk.org.uk and in the right hand column on the Home Page, click on Dr Peatfield's clinic updates. If you live in Yorkshire, or are prepared to travel, he is doing a clionic in my cottage on 27/28th/29th March. I am between Keighley and Skipton. If you live elsewhere, there will be a clinic nearer to you somewhere.

How old is your Armour, it really has a shelf life of about 2 years, but if it has been kept in a cool place and has been unopened, I can't see how they could become contaminated. However, it might be best if you start with good fresh tablets. If your GP knows you are lactose intolerant, what does he suggest you take to replace your thyroid hormones. You can get a pure form of T4 and T3 from dales pharmacies.

Let me know if any of Dr Peatfield's clionics are suitable. His phone number is 01883 623125.

Hi All

Does anyone has Dr Peatfield phone number as i want to make an appointment to see him. My gp refuses to give me armour so i will order from the international pharmacy, however would like to do this under the direction of medical person. I recently found out that i am very very lactose intolerant the doctor who checked this from the Nutri Centre, said it was well out of range..so excessively lactose intolerant ..i wondered if this had anything to do with hypothyroidism..my tsh came back a few days ago..and is tsh is 2.7..2 months ago it was 1.9..a big jump..all i can do is go with how i feel..and i know i do not feel right..so today i have received the nutri adrenal extra and will continue takinig this until i see Dr Peatfield..i also have some old armour that i got years ago that i never used and wondered if i could start taking that..very confused...i guess the other option is get up iron up and this will drop my tsh...very confused about what to do??Luv,Simone

No, it is thyroxine that has Lactose as a filler - Armour has the following non-active ingredients.

1.Thyroid Powder, USP2. Dextrose, Anhydrous 3. Microcrystalline Cellulose, NF 4. Sodium Starch Glycolate, NF 5. Calcium Stearate, NF6. Opadry White (titanium dioxide used as a whitening agent)

Boots the chemist will supply liquid thyroxine which has no lactose or

sugar in it. It is a bit of a pain as there are no preservatives in

it, so you have to get a prescription every 3 weeks. I also have a

suspicion that it works better because you absorb it before it gets to

your stomach. I was on it for a while and felt OK, my problems started

when I moved house and it was impractical to keep going to the

doctors / chemists every 3 weeks.

Hi Simone

Did you see Sheila's post about lactose being in thyroxine and not in

Armour? Just wanted to correct my mistake. Sorry.
