I have been interested in autism treatment and research forseveral years, and for my senior research project this year, I am doinga study of the experiences of parents of children with autism.Specifically, I'd like to learn more about their personal beliefs, theirfeelings about their child's diagnosis, and the challenges involved inraising their child. I was wondering if you might be willing to help mefind participants for my study by spreading the word about it to themembers of your ASA chapters and support groups. All of the information will be collected using an anonymous onlinequestionnaire, which parents can complete at their convenience. Here isthe link for the questionnaire:http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=123161505247Any help you can offer would be very much appreciated. If you have anyfurther questions, please feel free to contact me.Thanks! White--------------------------------------------------------------------- White University(765) 648-2826sewhite@...DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH: You are being asked to participate in a study about the experience of parents raising children with autism spectrum disorder. Specifically, we want to learn more about your personal beliefs, the challenges involved in raising your child, your personal well-being, and your feelings about your child's diagnosis. The entire questionnaire will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. If you are not able to complete the entire questionnaire in one session, you may return to the link at a later time to finish it (you will automatically be taken to the point where you left off). RISKS AND BENEFITS: Some questions are of a somewhat sensitive nature. Therefore, you may be at risk of some emotional upset evoked by the process of answering questions about stressful situations involved in raising your child. You will not receive any direct benefit for your involvement, although your participation will help to further knowledge and understanding of the experience of parents raising children with autism.COSTS AND PAYMENTS: There are no costs associated with completing this questionnaire. You will not be paid for completing the questionnaire. CONFIDENTIALITY: Any information obtained about you from this research will be made anonymous and/or disguised so that identification cannot be made. If this study is published, data will be reported in statistical form only.RIGHT TO WITHDRAW: You are free to refuse to participate in this study or to withdraw from this study at any time by simply informing the experimenter in person, by letter, by e-mail, by phone, or by clicking "Exit this survey," found in the upper right corner of your screen. Your decision will not adversely affect your status with the Psychology Department or the University, nor will it cause a penalty or loss of benefits to which you are entitled.APPROVAL BY HUMAN PARTICIPANTS RESEARCH COMMITTEE: This study has been reviewed by the University Committee for Human Participants Research. The Committee has determined that this study meets the ethical obligations required by the federal law and University standards. If you have any questions, please contact the Committee at 641-4470.
