Hi - its a super blender basically. Instead of juicing you use the

whole foods. I have a juicer too but mainly use the vita-mix. The vita-mix

liquifies well. Makes wonderful fruit shakes and I use it to make my

version of ice cream. You put a couple of frozen bananas - some frozen

peaches and pineapple juice to about halfway up. The consistency is like

ice cream and its creamy because of the bananas. MMM. I do eat fruit after

noon in the evening sometimes for a snack (at least a couple of hours after

I have eaten dinner). But its breakfast. I have the Fit for Life cookbook

and she gives some alternatives for colder weather or when you need more

energy but you don't lost weight on the alternatives. Jeanie

I am not real overweight - right now could stand 5-10 lbs. but haven't been

following my own advice strictly. I was on Elavil for a couple of years and

then couldn't drop it. When I got off Elavil (took me a year) I started

eating fruit in the morning and did drop about 10 lbs. I am also

Hypothyroid - borderline but enough they wanted me on synthroid a while

back. Started taking this stuff called T-100 (natural) and I got to normal.

Now I am starting this stuff known to cleanse the glands and eliminative

organs. Kelp is real important for us too. And there are, of course, the

avoid veggies that mess with our thyroids (O types). Jeanie

thanks Jeanie, I thought it was a powdered drink of some kind! I just

started on this, so I am learning. That does sound good! Have you lost

much weight? If you have, have you had a problem with the pounds not budging

before this? I have hyperthyroid (or so the docs say, but have a lot of

Sorry,

If I am bothering you, but what is T-100 and where do you purchase it. Are

the veggies in this diet the same ones to avoid with thyroid problems?

Also, (and I promise this is the last question for now!) with the breads,

manna and the others mentioned, where in the world do you get those?

T-100 is just a health supplement with ingredients that nourish and help

build the thyroid back to health. There is no particular diet I am talking

about other than the O diet. Just eating fruit in the morning. I get my

T-100 through Latter-Day Family Resources at www.ldfr.com (if thats not

right let me know). There are other types of formulas - I just know this

I'm going to throw in a dissenting voice on the whole reducing fat

intake to lose weight. It's taken me about 3 years total to lose 30

lbs., and since ER4YT about 4 months ago helped me lose almost 10 of

those 30 lbs. And for me it meant cutting down on the carbs, not the

fat. It is high insulin levels that cause the body to store fat more

than the fat in one's diet.

A good book for that info. is Protein Power, which is what got me

started 3 years ago. I am eating a bit more carbs on the ER diet than I

did (HB ones like sweet potatoes), but overall for me that is the key to

keeping the weight off.

And yes, exercise helps a lot too. I got a Pilates Performer a year ago

from QVC, and love what it's done for my figure -- the 'saddlebags' went

away pretty quickly, even though I was 10-15 lbs. heavier when I started

using it. I'll get off my soapbox now. :-)

I agree on the reducing carbs. Dr. D'Adamo is very clear on that as he is

on not eating carbs like rice with proteins like meat, poultry or fish if

you want to lose. I found I compensated at first for the carbs and proteins

by eating fatty things like pumpkin seeds. Until I quite doing that I

didn't start losing. I certainly didn't go down to as low fat as I had

eaten while on macrobiotics. If you eat animal protein like meat, fish,

poultry and eggs, you'll be consuming fat.

What you mentioned about not eating carbs with meat is another food

You don't digest as well with that combination. Perhaps if when you do eat

the ok carbs you eat them separate from animal proteins it will make a

It is ok to eat the low glycemic carb foods with your meat. Just be careful

of the

sweet potatoes, squash, carrots...etc. No Ezekial bread either with the

meat. And

absolutely no fruit. I guess a good rule of thumb is to eat the dark green

and green

leafy veggies with the meat. Let's see what the rest of the group says. I

find that

I lose weight easier if I stay off the high glycemic veggies and all fruits

for a

period of time and then eat them for just a day or two and then stay off of

them again.

That is supposed to re-set your metabolism. Seems to work for me.

this is a whole new thing to me about high glycemics and low glycemic

veggies.

i will do the green stuff and no fruit for a while and see how it goes.

i am having that problem with pumpkin seeds now...trying to not eat them is

tough. i love them and they curb the cravings alot but i wuit losing weight

while eating them...so back to no carbs or LOW carbs anyway.

Basically no starches ( which does include sweet potatoes) with proteins. I

do eat protein with my ezekial bread and it seems to agree better than maybe

spelt (unsprouted) would. I have experimented and do notice a big

difference with how I digest. Jeanie

i can't eat the spelt bread. acts the same with me as wheat flour. does the

Ezekial bread have wheat?

i have noticed that i can't eat cornbread either. i tried...duh...no corn

right? boy corn does a real number on me for a couple days and its amazing

how i never put 2 and 2 together all these years.

Maybe not sweet potatoes with chicken. When the book talks about carbs in

connection with not eating it with animal protein, it's talking more about

grains like rice, quinoa, bread. I guess you get to have a veggies and

carbs meal or a veggies and protein meal.

Have I got that right?

Ezekial bread is all sprouted so it has a different effect on us which is

generally ok but there is no accounting to individuality. Jeanie

ok what do you all eat to lost weight? can you give a sample menu?

can't eat fruit with protein, can't eat certain veggies with protein, it

seems that with all these don'ts there aren't a lot of ok's. Between the

blood type diet, and all of these other things, I'll starve. Can't eat much

starches/carbs. Also I have read that with thyroid problems shouldn't over

do it on the meats. My weight is focused on my stomach and face. legs and

arms are fine.

With the mayo diet. How does this work with the ER4YT? Can't have eggs (at

least not everyday), can't have citrus (grapefruit), can't have pork (bacon

and sausage), please explain. Has anyone lost weight on this?

I am desperate to get this weight off, its very upsetting. I want to eat

right and not necessarily go on a diet, but I am completely confused.

Grapefruit juice is neutral. Those of us on the diet substitute the pork

bacon with turkey or beef bacon. If you have the 12dd, this works well with

the type O diet. Just eat the foods that are also on the type O diet...I

have them yellowed on my sheet. I have lost l9 lbs since thanksgiving...

hoping for 5 more by the llth, will let you know how I do.

I think gaining in the face an abs is typical of thyroid people.

the diet, tell me more? Do you feel satisfied? Do you have thyroid

problems? Have you had trouble losing weight before?

I eat a lot of fish currently, for lunch and dinner. Where I work, you can

heat up cooked food in the microwave, so I cook extra in the evening and

bring some for lunch the next day. I took a quick tip from The Zone which

recommends eating twice as much vegetable (of the low glycemic variety) with

the protein, whether meat or, more often for me these days, fish. I

actually am on the lookout for more low fat fish cooking ideas. This one

third and thwo thirds idea is easy for me to visualize and use.

The vegetables include, winter squash like butternut, sweet mama,

kabocha--all of which I love madly just plain, baked. ...broccoli, kale,

spinach, collard...carrots, parsnips, occasionally rutabaga, even less often

turnips....asparagus...celery and daikon radish (helps break down and get

rid of fat) either raw, grated or cooked....seaweed (a big boost to

metabolism and a happy intestinal system...including wakame, hijiki, arame,

kale, kombu, and nori)...tomatoes, red peppers, parsley, cilantro, basil,

bay, onions, garlic, and salad mixes including a variety of lettuces, beet

greens, dandelion greens, spinach and other neat stuff. Once in a while (as

in once a week), I'll have a sweet potato and think it's really some kind of

celebration...or have some rice and veggies instead of fish and veggies.

I try to cook the veggies without oil....not always but limit the sauteing

to 3 times a week. I learned some recipes from macrobiotics. I can post

some if anybody is interested.

For breakfast I alternate between a crunchy rice cereal with soy milk or

almond milk, or one boiled egg with spelt toast and fruit, or spelt toast

with scrambled eggs or an omelet with some favorite ingredients made using

Egg Beaters or egg whites with my own spices added (turmeric, cumin, onion

powder). I've gotten into using the All-fruit spreads on the toast instead

of butter. If I want a buttery spread I use Take Control or Olio (made with

olive oil).

I carry snacks around so I don't give in to all those tempting goodies in

The World. Usually the snacks are fresh or dried fruit. A little ziploc

bag with mostly raisins and a few sunflower seeds will keep me honest if my

commute home drags on beyond the usual.

I've gotten fond of those cool ethnic spice mixes. They can be a little

pricey but a few shakes of, say, Mexican seasoning, can add a dash to a meal

which may have been less inspired than I'd like.

Hi Barbara (and others).

The Pilates Performer is an exercise machine, with different levels of

resistance depending on what you're doing. It's kind of hard to explain

the setup, but you could head over to QVC's website and do a search.

Just enter " Pilates " , there are also some tapes you can get besides the

basic one that comes with it. I also have the lower body workout tape,

and the intermediate level one. Turns out that a lot of the intermediate

level ones require some additional equipment that I don't have, and

won't be getting until I have a place with more room.

At any rate, instead of some exercise regimes that make one more

'bulky', this helps you strengthen and get leaner. I know that D'Adamo

says that O's should go for more strenuous exercise, this fits for me;

though it's not very strenuous. I only do about 15 mins/day; about 4-5

days a week. And I feel great when I get done! In addition to helping

slim my butt & thighs, my arms are also much stronger and overall I

don't feel so 'creaky' anymore.

So to get to the QVC web-site, just go to http://www.qvc.com. They also

sometimes show it on the qvc station -- you'd have to check the

schedule. The performer costs about $400, but they usually have it on

'easy pay' and you can split it up over 4 months, which is what I did.

Lastly -- I did my after-holiday weight yesterday and I'd gained 4-5

lbs. yuk! Probably all those darn chocolates I ate.. so it'll be heavy

on the meat & veggies for me over the next couple of weeks!
