Within about 8 months of getting implanted, I was 100% disabled due to illness, and illnesses have snowballed ever since. Hashimoto's Disease (100 pound weight gain in 1 year), hypothyroidism, Pseudotumor Cerebri, degenerative joint disease/arthritis/connective tissue disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, polycystic ovaries, PID, increased allergies, rashes, light sensitive, positive testing for Lupus and Sjogren's Syndrome (though I've looked no further into those 2 since preliminary diagnosis for fear I won't be able to afford health insurance)... The only things I had BEFORE implants were Anxiety and Bipolar Disorders, and some allergy problems. I was 100% healthy otherwise.

My insurance does not cover explant, and I haven't been able to afford it -but I'm trying to do it this winter so long as financing comes through. Mind you, I'm very happy with the appearance of my implants... but it's not worth the pay off to my health.

You'll find most of us on here have very similar health issues. Too similar to be coincidental.

1990 after a mastectomy. No, I was not told

anything about life expectancy. First one ruptured after 3 1/2 months.

I got mine in May 1997, and by July 1997 they just started telling women that implants needed to be replaced every seven years. Imagine that.....going into surgery being told one thing, practically just getting healed from it and being told a completely different story. I had been told by my plastic surgeon that they would last a lifetime; would go with me to my grave. Yeah, right. Another "pie in the sky" line that plastic surgeons have used in their sales pitch about implants, in a long list of many. There have been a host of "new and improved" implants through the years, but how many ever lived up to their claims? If there ever was a need for caution, it is when talking to plastic surgeons. Buyer Beware is right! Patty mwin7906 <mwin7906@...> wrote: Did anyone get there implants in 1992 or around? Nobody I have ever heard from or talked with was ever told partly

because the PS weren't told that even the brochures from the

manufactures said they lasted a lifetime.

There *is* humor here. I got Cronin's in 1965 for a congenital defect

(cosmetic). These were the first silicone implants. Mine were in for

25 years...no rupture. They didn't even separate where they have velcro

patches that supposedly help them stick to the chest wall muscles! My

explanting PS was surprised about that. However, I had gel bleed for

all those years ending up with masses of scar tissue (contractures) and

nearly empty silicone bags! Pathology showed little beads of silicone

in arterioles in the scar tissue and in samples of chest muscle tissue.

So, my body is full of silicone. From my research this stuff doesn't

get out. And the havoc it played with my immune system, the damage to

my body, is done. My diagnosis (simplified) is SLE/RA overlap. And I

am very ill, have been disabled for 13 years. I'm 64 years old, a

retired/disabled Registered Nurse. I fought the good fight...and am

fighting it still. It's devilishly difficult as you all know. Just to

survive, much less to really live. But I'm focusing on living now; I

got my $$ from the SOBs ( AKA as the settlement from Dow Corning), so

I'm through with them. It's my little piece of justice, and I do mean

little. It can't buy back or purchase for the future years of health,

freedom from pain. But I'm done with that fight. Ooops! Got carried

away! My point about humor was that in some ways the first were the

best! They didn't rupture, tear like tissue paper bags, like the

'newer' and 'better' ones. I feel for those of us, you who got the

'updates' and now have to deal with gobs of the stuff spilled out into

your chests! Try for a bitter laugh here if you can. God help us all!

Regards,

Hi ,

Dr. Feng removed my implants and I'm very happy with her work. I

look very similar to how I looked before I got implants, and the

scars are perfectly placed where you can't see them unless I raise

my arms (and it's not too often that I'm out in public, nude, with

my arms in the air, so I'm good!).

Hi Sis,

We are so glad to hear that you are not out in the public, nude, with

your arms in the air. Had a good laugh over that one.

, It's all about the MONEY. Breast implants are a huge money-making device.....I was reading in the book "Torn Illusions" about how the ingredients in implants that were tested on lab rats-in one study, the female rats developed cancer, but the male lab rats didn't. When more studies were done though, Dow Corning only used MALE rats...because they KNEW ahead of time that the results would be Ok! mwin7906 <mwin7906@...> wrote: Leyna,All I can say is WOW! I had McGhan textured teardrop shape under the muscle for blissful years. Then I got extremely sick very fast. For almost a full year I was told by many doctors that it was not my implants making me ill, yet they couldn't tell me what was wrong with me. Then I found this group, which saved my life. I had and still have severe muscle weakness and pain, however, my fog and confusion has lessoned greatly. I was so bad I was sure I was getting early onset alzheimer's (so did my hubby). I was also having many confusing symptoms that seemed to worsen as time went on, such as dry eyes, nerve pain, numbness, burning, heart palpatations and hair loss. I really thought I was dying, I even had dreams of my own death. I was preparing myself to die. Then I met Dr. Feng. Since I had so far to drive, I make my appointment for surgery on the phone and had my consoltation the day before the surgery. That was back in Feb.

of this year. Since, my confusion has subsided, but the dislexia hasn't. The fog is apparent only when I am tired. The hairloss has stopped, my eyes don't require fake tears, my heart is normal. I still struggle everyday with fibro symptoms, so severe I cannot work. The surgery recovery was not that long at all, I believer the drains were what helped to minimalize the pain and swelling. In fact my pain was more from implant then with explant. However, what made it difficult was the grieving I had to endure with the explant. With implantation, the pain was worth the beauty I thought I was getting. With explant I had to give up beauty to save my life. If I suggest anything it would be to find a good counselor to help you through the pain of the loss. I have been going to one since one week before explant. I am finding my beauty doesn't lie with what my body looks like, but what I have on the

inside. I had alot of guilt and shame with all my poor decisions, these are feelings that needed someone else to help me through. You are so beautiful my dear. My confusion and so called dislexia turned around within a couple of

months after explant. It was like all of a sudden I could think again

and remember what I was doing. \Terri P

Hi Kat. More than likely it is hormonal. Boys and men have breast tissue. If a male has breast tissue that is visible, this is called gynecomastia. As a normal part of development, young boys can have some breast swelling and tenderness. Like breast tenderness in women, this is due to hormonal changes. Is there any redness? Is this just suddenly...? If it continues you may want to check it out. Suzi kat <vanokat@...> wrote: Hi everyone, I have a 12 yo son who has developed some swelling in one of his breasts- the nipple area to be exact. My husband is saying probably just hormones but I am kinda worried. Anyone know anything about this? He says it hurts to touch it. Geeezzzz I love motherhood. Kathy Suzi What is a weed? Really, nobody is protecting us! There are women on this group who have saved lives of many dozens of women, because they refused to stay silent and have tried to spread the word...for years and years now...of the damage implants are doing. The problem is that those with deep pockets and an interest in keeping implants on the market are yelling louder than we can ever hope to. The din from their cacophony of disinformation drowns us out pretty well. The women have tried to do something about this epidemic, through the DOW lawsuit that got dragged on for years and years, but that got to be a circus too. Now it's one grand mess with confusion rampant. Oh, I guess the doctors don't think they are confused at all. They just think we are. But, we aren't confused. We know what made us sick...I know the implants made me sick. Their little studies didn't apply to

me because well, truth is truth. I got sick after implants and got better when removed. Hmm. End of story. What can be done? We tell everyone we know of our plight. We never stay silent. We reach women one at a time. We help those who are sick, and try to help women who are not implanted to not make that choice. One at a time. That's how we help others, while helping ourselves.
