Buying shoes for our kids is such a difficult task, and there are so few stores

around who offer the wide widths. We have found NORDSTROMS and DILLARDS. They

have been the only places we have found to carry the wider shoes for our

daughter, and they will even stretch them a bit, if you need.

We love the Doc s, but as many know, they are no longer available in local

stores. However, you can buy them online. They have always been adjustable for

the width, and also have a very solid foot base. They have been great for

Mandy's back problems.

I hope this is helpful.

Hello everyone, I am new here. I have a 5 year old son with

achondraplasia. I would like to know where you find D with shoes.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I hope you can

help. I also wanted to join so I might be of help to someone else

sometime.

Thanks in advance,

Hello all,

With shoes in my area we don't have Nordstroms or Dillards but at

the mall you can find Stride Right. Unfortunately I don't fit any

sizes there now but as a kid I was able to find shoes for my wide

fat lil dwarf feet. So that is definately a place to check out!

For my hs graduation we had to wear white dresses instead of a cap

and gown, no worries it was an all girl school lol. So the hunt was

on for white dress shoes. We found a pair which fit great and

believe me I am saving those for my wedding! The brand name is

called: Fisher Price Classics (ya ya laugh now) BUT they don't look

like kid shoes at all and they are great. I am a size 10 kids but

super super wide. Unfortunately size 10 in girls are extremely

narrow more than boy sizes.

Good luck on the hunt!!

Hello all,

I'm a diastrophic and require custom-made shoes. For years, finding a shoemaker

has been a challenge (the one who makes my boots charges $600 per pair).

But I found an alternative solution: Birkenstocks. Originally, they made

sandals for hippes ;-) but now have expanded to a full-line of shoes. Most

stores have a repair shop and a pedorthists who can customize your sandals and

shoes to fit. They still charge about $150 (on top of the price of the shoe),

but it is still less than I have been paying.

I have been wearing Birks for close to 25 years now! I got my first pair

when I was 6. At that time they didn't have any kids sizes so they would

trace my foot and then send it back to the company (I think they actually

sent it to Germany) to have a custom shoe made. It did seem exhorbitant at

the time at over $100 for a pair of shoes but I wore each pair for at least

10 years. They are pretty much the only shoes I wear now in the summer. I

also have done Stride Rite for a good portion of my life. Now that it is

only rarely that I walk I can size up my dress shoes for my width and still

be OK.

Birkies are great! They last like iron, and Mandy loves wearing hers.

Another place I totally forgot about is EUROPEAN COMFORT. The sandals are

expensive but they last and last. I am in my third year, and it cost me a mere

$6.00 to replace the velcro on them, but the leather sandals look band new. The

straps across the top are adjustable, and you cna have them for a thin foot to a

very wide one. They are the best $100 I ever spent on sandals for sure.

They also make shoes for the Winter months, but since I do not go out during

that time, I just wear my sandals.
