Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Alyce: When my niece was about 5 years old she asked my sister " when is Aunt Marty going to grow up " as though I was absent-minded and just hadn't gotten around to it yet! ;-) -marty (the lady one) >>> afwtexas@... 03/28/06 9:57 AM >>> Bill said: I think the most perfect dwarf women is.... All of them!!! (How's that for hedging my bets?) Smart man! And I'm so relieved I don't have to do the drinking contest. One drink and I'm asleep. I have no problem with the term LITTLE PEOPLE (Sorry, Marty) because it contains the word PEOPLE, and sometimes the world needs to be reminded that we fall into that category. Dwarf is fine; person with dwarfism is fine. In my opinion, although the " M " word is sometimes used innocently by those those who don't know better (and who drop it when told), it is also the word of choice by those who have no manners and/or don't care if they hurt anyone. I don't mean children, whom I always give the benefit of the doubt. I mean adults, as in those who have followed me around in public places, saying loudly, " Look at the M-----! " No, I don't go home and cry myself to sleep about it, having lived long enough to know that someone that insensitive has a much bigger problem than I do. But rude is still rude. Finally, here's a cute kid story: Hannah, a six-year-old at my church, came up to me recently and demanded, " Miss Alyce, when are you going to grow up?! " At her age, it was easy to explain that some people have green eyes, some people have blue eyes, some are short, some are tall, etc. But the following week she returned just to make sure and said, " So you'll stay short, right? " Her mom told me she had seen LPBW and was putting it all together. Alyce :-) --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Messenger with Voice. Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 I have a cute kid story to share too...my nephew (who is 3 1/2) and I were in Wal Mart a couple months ago and this little boy who was probably around the age of 7 came up to me and pointed, laughed, and said hey you're not a real woman (or something along those lines). my nephew turns to him and yells " hey be nice to my minya leave her alone " and was making fists to this kid who was towering over him. it was sooo cute. Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Hello, Kids are forever asking their mom " Is she a mommy? " I usually have my 3yr old son with me, then they will stare and finally ask me " Are you his mommy? " When I tell them yes they usually just smile and go on or they will turn back to their parents and say WHY? is she small?? I'm trying to educate my son now so he will understand that things like that will happen alot and he needs to be ready to deal with it. Guest guest Posted March 28, 2006 Report Posted March 28, 2006 Many years ago my father and I were waiting for my mother to finishing paying for my sneakers at the store. There was this adorable girl walking out holding her daddy's hand. She had to have been around 2 or 3 years old. She pulled her thumb out of her mouth as she saw my father and she goes " Look Daddy! A Baby Man! " It was so cute. Her father was embarrassed, but saw that my dad was not. The little girl's father was put at ease by my father's gentle reaction. He thought it was cute too and started laughing. For those who do not know, My father and I both have dwarfism. a > > I have a cute kid story to share too...my nephew (who is 3 1/2) and > I were in Wal Mart a couple months ago and this little boy who was > probably around the age of 7 came up to me and pointed, laughed, and > said hey you're not a real woman (or something along those lines). > my nephew turns to him and yells " hey be nice to my minya leave her > alone " and was making fists to this kid who was towering over him. > it was sooo cute. > Quote
Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Unfortunately out there, AP's tend to ASSUME we all must look alike too, which is totally absurd, but they DO. For many years, and in a LARGE city too, I was constantly getting bombarded by many groups of AP's insisting I was this other LP lady! When they FINALLY would realize I wasn't, they said this LP lady and I looked EXACTLY ALIKE, and they were SO totally blown away about this! Years later, this lady and I happened to FINALLY actually run right smack into each other, and got to compare " notes " on the matter! She too was getting bombarded through the years, only by MY many friends claiming she HAD to be ME! The thing of it was though, WE LOOKED NOTHING ALIKE AT ALL, nor did we even talk alike!!! We were SO completely different looking in EVERY way, that it boggled our minds all our friends could even make such a blunder to begin with! We thought it was just hilarious! What about the rest of you? Are any of you forever being mistaken for another LP in your area, who looks NOTHING like you?!! Oh, and then there is THIS too-------you are seen with car keys in hand, opening your car door, no one else with you, and you get, " Wow, do YOU REALLY DRIVE?!! DUH. No. I staked out a frail little old lady who I am stealing this car from, and I then followed her into the john, flushed her down the toilet, and somehow, IF I am lucky, I will find a zillion phone books to sit on, just so I can drive it off now, thank you. Oh, and yes!!! What about the ones who when they converse with us, TALK VERY LOUDLY AND ENUNCIATE THEIR WORDS, as IF due to our shortness, we: (a) our shortness makes us deaf, or ( our shortness makes us dumb, or © our shortness means WE should be talked to like they talk to a baby, for crying out loud?!!! I am always then tempted to say something like, " Goo goo gaa gaa, do I REALLY look like I am a BABY?!! AUGH!!! But I don't, because I first know I have MY pride, and, as has been even been touched upon in here recently, I also KNOW, that what I say, how I act, not ONLY represents how I appear to THEM, but represents us ALL. So if I can respond in a positive warm way, which isn't always easy, believe me, THEY will hopefully be very impressed and pass this along, and if we ALL do this, slowly, very VERY SLOWLY, maybe we may even make a positive difference out there someday, where we are NOT any longer being invaded by ignorance, nastiness, and disrespect. Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Well not only the kids ask you question. The adults ask you too, they be asking you how do you have sex? Can you have kids too? Can you have sex like AP? I just trun my head and keep on walking. When I'm with my boyfriend they be asking me are you her father? My boyfriend just look at them like they are crazy. > I have a cute kid story to share too...my nephew (who is 3 1/2) and > I were in Wal Mart a couple months ago and this little boy who was > probably around the age of 7 came up to me and pointed, laughed, and > said hey you're not a real woman (or something along those lines). > my nephew turns to him and yells " hey be nice to my minya leave her > alone " and was making fists to this kid who was towering over him. > it was sooo cute. > > > > > === > Quote

Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 These types of questions I have never been asked. My husband has never been asked these types of questions either...Fortunatly for them, they have never asked him these questions directly! Seriously, I look too much like him and he obviously looks much older than me...what are people thinking?? But the most frequently asked question I receive from adults is: " What is the appropriate word to use when talking about someone like you? " (of course people ask this in other ways too.) My response: " the person's name " (but I do take the opportunity to educate them) a > > I have a cute kid story to share too...my nephew (who is 3 1/2) > and > > I were in Wal Mart a couple months ago and this little boy who was > > probably around the age of 7 came up to me and pointed, laughed, > and > > said hey you're not a real woman (or something along those lines). > > my nephew turns to him and yells " hey be nice to my minya leave her > > alone " and was making fists to this kid who was towering over him. > > it was sooo cute. > > > > > > > > > > === > > Quote

Guest guest Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Sorry, Bill, I've got a mistaken identity story to beat them all. I was in my last semester at Gallaudet University. I was rushing through the student union building when a woman stopped me and said she knew me. I said I didn't think so but she was insistent. Finally she signed, " Your name is , right? " ASL is not my first language and I still get nervous with fingerspelling so I thought I must have misread her. I asked her again to spell it. Again she signed " Your name is . " I just looked at her and said " I'm not . I'm a woman! " She looked at me and said " Are you sure? " She was deadly serious. A funny story about my stepdaughter: She is also an LP, but very petite (pseudo). In high school, she got a job working at Old Navy. One day, a lady comes in with her daughter (who was about 5) and when they saw my daughter standing on a stool at the checkout counter, the little girls shouts at the top of her lungs " look mommy, that little girl has BOOBS!
