Guest guest
I could not agree with you more Bill. I cannot stand the little people out there who use and throw around the M word. It is completely and utterly disrespectful to the masses who cringe at that word and who spend every day of their lives educating people AGAINST using that word... In fact Bonnie, because you and your friends use the word Midget and you think it is so funny to joke around with, then most likely YOUR FRIENDS would see me out and call me a midget because you have sent a message to them, or anyone who sees your website that the word is acceptable. I think it is fine to have your own view on things, but as Bill stated, when it hurts others, it is NOT ok. Jackie
Guest guest
Personally, I believe that there is nothing wrong with the term " midget " as long as it isn't in a condesending manner. It is a term devised by physicians to indicate that someone is under a certain height. I am 3'6 " tall, and have Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Therefore, I do not have any form of dwarfism; however, I know I am a midget. It is reality, and I accept it. When people ask me, and always in a timid and careful way, " so... are you technically... a midget? ...or? " I always smile back at them to ease their awkwardness and reply, " well, actually, yes I am. " I feel it is nothing to be ashamed of, just like asking, " so, are you Latino? " or " are you a student? " It is honestly no wonder that people are scared to approach individuals with physical limitations/differences, because they are afraid they will offend us... and you can't blame them. If people can't joke around in a friendly way with us, how do we expect to be seen as everyone else and treated like we are individuals? If they are scared to talk to us for fear of not using a proper term, why should we expect to be spoken to? As long as the term is used innocently, or in a friendly manner... I don't see a problem with it. Proud to be a midget, Pam
Guest guest
Pam, I have to disagree with you. I have OI and I'm 3 ft 1. I'm not a midget, I'm a dwarf. Dwarf is the medical term to describe proportional and disproportional short statue adults. As I remember the word midget was first used by Harriet Beecher Stowe in one of her books.(sorry if the spelling is off) This information was explained in Dan Kennedy's book. Yes, many years ago, midget was used to describe a proportional little person and was an excepted term. I myself feel that the word is dehumanizing and gives people the impression that we are things, not people with families, hopes and dreams. Just my 2 cents. le Gordon Re: Monster Garage's Last Episode Personally, I believe that there is nothing wrong with the term " midget " as long as it isn't in a condesending manner. Guest guest
I totally agree, I never said use it towards those who don't like it, why don't u write the jesse james show and let them know how much it bothered you? Why are u only addressing me, and not the LP that was allowed to be call midget on TV? Like Kurt said, if you don't like something, DO something about it, instead of just whining on a list where nothing will get done. " when > it hurts others, it is NOT ok. Guest guest
Hmm I was under the impression that Midg word came from the old freak show days. I am a Dwarf and proud of it. I have only met one dwarf to date that I didnt like and get along with. Out of all the people I know the Dwarven/LP community is the friendliest and most accepting of others (outside the pagan community that is). Chass of Rundel of Ansteorra aka Charinthalis Del Sans of the portable Chariot Honorable Recruiter of the House of the Red Shark (Have you seen my Belaying Pin??) Muddeler of Mead, Ailment of Ale, Whiner of wine.
