Thanks for any suggestions…….. ______ There are lots, but not anything I could tell you without seeing what you're doing. Are you having pain and limiting your weight or timing on that leg? What you might do is watch yourself walk in a mirror or the reflection of a door you're walking up to or something so that you see what you're doing. Go for even steps, even timing, and keeping your pelvis moving as far in one direction as the other.....which will essentially even out what you see your shoulders and head doing above this base of support. y
Guest guest
Had RHR>I am alternating to cane a few hours each day. I went to os appointment on a cane thinking he would be proud of me. Not so, he watched me walk and cautioned me on going to cane too early as you can develop a sway and or limp if muscles are not ready, I was not real steady and was making compensating moves... He suggested alternating with cane for brief periods and using walker to continue to work on form. My ot critiques my walking twice a week and my problem that was developing was that I was going to left foot too fast unconsciously keeping some weight off right foot. What ot has me working on is getting right toe down and slightly rotated before left heel touches. Suggest you work on form in front of mirror with walker as you can lose your balance. ben f. Guest guest
When I was in the rehab center a few weeks ago, I was really pleased when my PT tranferred me from a walker to only one cane, which I used until I was released and started seeing a PT in a nearby village. My new PT told me to use two canes (I use English crutches turned around to serve as canes), since she said my walk was not right. Apparently I was leaning and limping, something I don't do when I use two means of support. I'm only 39 days out of sliceville, so I guess I'll continue to use two means of support until further notice. I still have trouble putting all my weight on the " new " leg.
