Guest guest
It is now one month since I had my knee replaced and I am doing great. I can go on my bike for 15 minutes and petal very fast and I even walk over 1 mile a day. My doctor told me I had to back off and slow down a little, so I am even though it is hard to. My new knee bends at 122 degrees which he said was great. The only problem I have is that since the surgery I have trouble holding food down. I finally went to my family doctor after I finished all my meds (just in case the nausea was caused them) and he said that sometimes the stress of the surgery causes stomach ulcers. I have really bad acid reflux and take 2 Nexium a day for it, but that could still happen. The good news is that in 1 month I lost 38 pounds. I am now down to the lowest weight I have been in 21 years! I still have lots more to lose, but I am on my way. None of my doctors think that is good so now I am going to my GI specialist on Friday to see what she thinks. Has anyone else ever had this kind of problem? What happened in your case? Also another problem I have is that the bottom of my foot is still numb in areas. My doctor said that he really had to do a lot of work on my knee, that is was messed up more than he thought it was, so there is still swelling and the nerves were really stressed during that time. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how long did it last? I hope all of you are doing well and are getting around just great. Guest guest
Hi Curtis, The jaw pain is normal - when the packing is totally gone from your ear you will hopefully have no more jaw pain. I remember having to pry the fork/spoon into my mouth because it didn't open wide and it was a little painful. Brushing my teeth was interesting as well. Take Care! From: "paperworker@..." <paperworker@...>cholesteatoma Sent: Wed, December 1, 2010 10:00:19 AMSubject: One Month Out It was one month ago today I had surgery, so I thought it would be a good idea to briefly jot down my experience thus far. I guess it will be easier for me to divide my experiences into EXPECTED and UNEXPECTED categories.Expected:Taste on left side is impaired and "cardboardy??" Still that way. Balance/and brief bouts of vertigo was light for a few day now normal. Aches and localized bruising, which diminished over the first week. Outer layer of packing came out when I removed bandage after 48 hours. Inner packing will dissolve with daily use of drops. Drops discontinued after 26 days per doctor because of unexpected development. Incision behind left ear tender but seems to be healing. Keep it clean and apply neosporin daily. Hearing, if possible, is worse than before surgery due to loss of conductive mass. No surprise there.Unexpected:Ear pain is persistent. I had hoped surgery would reduce pain, and immediately following surgery, the general pain masked the specific ear pain. As I healed in general, my ear pain stood out. After about two weeks it began to subside for a few days. Earache returned and for the first time in my life I experienced smelly discharge. I also felt a sore throat that went from my ear to the base of my throat. I called the doctor and he offered to see me immediately but since it is a 3-hour drive I opted to use drops he somewhat reluctantly prescribed. He had me discontinue the drops I had been using, and to begin using Ciprodex drops due suspected infection. I started those drops two days ago and they have started to become effective. Also unexpected, my jaw on left side is stiff (like TMJ), and I still cannot open my mouth normally. I notice this when I am eating. All in all, this month has been a roller-coaster. I was very positive until my ear somehow became infected which added to, and prolonged my discomfort. The jaw stiffness is bothersome, and I will get the doctor's take on that when I see him for scheduled appointment in six days. To make life a wee bit more interesting, I was also bitten by a spider that affected my breathing, and I spent 16 hours in the ER for possible heart attack. Turns out that my heart was fine. But pretty scary feeling like the wheels are coming off the old wagon. I am REALLY glad December is here and November is history.Curtis
Guest guest
I have little or no idea what to expect here, and I have an operation in February. I just got the results of a scan on my left ear today. The future you reveal sounds a bit bleak! Having broken my right eardrum last year, still not healed, and requiring the use of a strong behind the ear aid, the condition in my left ear is worrying. I have about 90% hearing loss in that ear; so I feel isolated, and don't much like going out at the moment. Talking about it must help though! > > It was one month ago today I had surgery, so I thought it would be a good idea to briefly jot down my experience thus far.
