Guest guest
Senior update from Ben the 74 yr old male. Last post was on day 2 post op. Being 74 I naturally had other complications, i.e. severe arthritis and gout just to name two, prior to surgery, and the gout broke out in both feet on day one post op. Not being able to put any weight on a gout foot set me back in physical therapy. Only a gout sufferer could understand the pain. Took two days to work thru the system to get gout medicine; now into day four post op and gout is getting better. I was transferred to a rehab hospital today and with gout pain under control expect the workout to start tomorrow, day 5 post op. Was taken off morphine drip today and started on Vicodin capsules. For you seniors the surgery was the easy part, the hard part has been the post op gout pain in both feet, the bed pan episodes as there have been several of those and it is not fun when you cant get out of bed. Have lost all modesty by the way, and am now in a strictly survival mode, what ever it takes. The nurses and assistants have been very experienced and step right in with a smile. I always thank them for helping me thru my disasters as I expect there may be more. I get the impression that they deal with that kind of stuff all the time. Thank goodness for those folks dedicated to work in health care. Will post again when I start walking. Ben

Get sick as a dog on most pain meds......Ultram and Darvacet and, as I recall, Lortab as well. Know I may well find it necessary post op, and don't want to compromise my rehab time with puking my guts out. Anyone else here intolerant of pain meds? y
Guest guest
Intolerant here!!! Morphine drip was worse than the surgery. First hip surgery had the morphine drip and did not really start recovery until they took the drip away. Second hip surgery went straight to viocden and it was soooooooooo much better.
