Guest guest
Hello everyone, I too have had a TKR mine was done January 12th of this year. I am doing fine with pain from time to time, but that is just the healing process. I know that it will take a while to get better and that it will never be the same but better than it has been for the last 14 years. I was given a card by my doctor before I went into surgery, it states: ISSUED TO: My Name...the holder of this card has a total joint replacement and/or a permanent metal implant. This metal implant may activate a metal detection device. This card has the Center's name, address, and phone number on it and is the size of a credit card. God bless those of you that have had and are about to have the replacement surgeries. You will all be in my prayers. " TGC "
Guest guest
Hi Texas Sniper, Thanks for sharing. I'm now 6 weeks pre-op, and I'm trying to look forward to surgery, but I find myself mostly dreading the hospital stay. It'll be nice to have it behind me and to start work on rebuilding my thigh muscles in my right leg which now ache badly because of the damage to my hip joint. Hopefully, next fall will find me walking in the park again. CharlotteTexas Sniper aka OBOSOK <govhitman308@...> wrote: Hello everyone, I too have had a TKR mine was done January 12th of this year. Guest guest
Glad your TKR is working well for you. Such cards sound like a good idea, but anyone could print up something like that, so its not going to get you any further than if you tell the security personnel you have an implant. At least at the US airports they are still going to go over you with the hand wand and pat down any place that gets a beep without any surface metal visible (e.g., a ring, watch or rivets). The cards with a picture or x-ray might be of some use for travel where there might be a language barrier. I have two metal hips and often have to step aside into what I call the " penalty box " for the wand inspection -- nearly 100% of the time since TSA took over after Sept 11th. The wand procedure takes a couple extra minutes, but its only a minor inconvenience. - >I was given a card by my doctor before I went > into surgery, it states: > > ISSUED TO: My Name...the holder of this card has a total joint > replacement and/or a permanent metal implant.
