Hi Penny,

I read in the e-mails that to find out about operations and Drs you should go to www.zimmer.com they might be able to help you. juneflower60 or Susieonecent1950s <plstaley@...> wrote:

I thank the group's generosity in sending me all the emails I have been receiving concerning your surgeries and struggles and triumphs. Now I have a question. There is now little doubt in my mind that I must have one or perhaps both of my hips replaced. It has come to my attention that there is a less traumatic procedure that goes by the acronym MIS, which stands for, I think, Minimal Invasive Surgery. I have seen the web site on it and am interested enough to ask if any one in Illinois has had it done, who did it for you, were you pleased with the results and how long did it take to recover? Also I am curious, does anyone know how to find the success/failure rate of a particular surgeon? I have tried the AMA site and, of course, found nothing but basic information of the physicians and surgeons in my area. I would very much

like to verify impartially the caliber of the person into whose hands I will be placing my life and physical well-being with regard to something as seriously debilitating as hips with no cartilage. Anything you know will be very helpful.Penny

You may want to consider the # of hip operations performed by the surgeon, the hospital where they are performed and most important the reputation of the surgeon. Talk to his patients, visiting nurses, salesmen who sell the prostheses, and doctors. SUZANNE SNYDER <juneflower60@...> wrote:

Maybe one suggestion would be to visit the ortho ward at the hospital that

He/She/? is operating at, and quiz the nurses, ground staff.. they will

always know everything! I did that, cried my way through the ward (codeine

overload), and was put completely at ease before mine..

Penny,

I read somewhere that your weight has to be proportionate to your

height in order to be a candidate for this surgery. I also read that

the first surgery of this type was done in Chicago at Rush hospital.

The web site is rush.edu, or something like that. There is quite a

bit of info there. Hope this helps.
