We have just increased her depression medication in hope of making her feel more hopeful and less suicidal. Guest guest
Was the falling before surgery or after surgery? How does the falling begin, i.e. one foot trips, loses balance on a curb, passes out suddenly, only with same pair of shoes, etc Need to analyze what initiates the fall. If it is tripping then one foot may be dropping and this means ankle exercises and lift exercises to pick up the toe, plus knee could be going out. Sounds like she went into unsupported walking too soon and had some mishaps and lost her confidence. Getting the confidence back is going to be slow. Some people take longer to regain muscle control and trying to solo too soon may have got her thinking she cant do it. Treadmill is ok for walking, but there needs to be some approved foot lifting muscle building. ben Grateful Daughter Thanks to everyone for your quick response to my message. Guest guest
Hip replacement surgery is a major operation. Would suggest you get mom to a general doctor and explain the circumstances. Suspect some kind of chemical defect and detailed blood test, urinanalysis, and etc are in order. Also, review what she is taking and why. Sometimes things you take dont mix well. The comments about wanting to die is her minds way of saying to a rational person (you) "I need help". As you get older and have more experience in combating the other side of living you will learn to interpret this kind of language by your loved ones. Someone in deep mental depression whether alcoholic, drug, prescription drug, etc will never say I need help. It is up to you to get the message from statements or unreasonable behavior. As for the six year old, pull moms superwoman fantasy that grandma may be sick and you are going to cure her and will not let it happen. The six year old believes mom can do anything and will most probably relax if mom says she wont let it happen. Your mom doesnt sound like the type of person that would have naturally said something like that. Have seen some horror stories over Vicodin and Prozac, but wont go into detail here. Good luck, and get help from a general doctor that will do some blood work, etc. The os must believe they put a functioning hip in your mom and it is up to her to develop the muscle and balance to properly use it.
