Guest guest
I am a month post-op bilateral hip replacemants and find I still need narc pain killers for the muscle soreness if I do what I am supposed to do re: exercisimg, stretching. Tylenol doesn't do enough. Does anyone else feel this need or am I an exception. HI ALAN. I, too, find that tylenol does not help at all. I need at least one oxycodone a day. I saw the rehab doctor last week and she told me to use it as needed. It has been made for us to use to keep ourselves comfortable, and we are supposed to use it if we need it. She especially wanted me to take one before I got into the pool for serious exercise. I comfort myself with remembering that at least I am not taking two of them every four hours, like I was when I got home from the hospital. I am five weeks post op. I think we have plenty of time to go off them, and I think it will be very natural. We will just not hurt and we will forget to take them. Give yourself a break. Marge He lives! Guest guest
Alan: I would guess that your body has a high tolerance to the medications, since you were on such strong pain meds for so long prior to your surgery. It will be hard to wean yourself off of them. Yes, ask you doctor about different meds, or patches, or different approaches to handling your pain. I would think that you would be healing enough soon to begin weaning from pain meds. Perhaps you need to slow down on the exercises, to allow those muscles to heal, before doing too much exercise that you probably did not do prior to surgery. Everyones body reacts differently to pain, and to surgery, and everyone perceives pain differently. Are you still seeing a therapist? Guest guest
Hi Alan, I'm also a month post op for bilateral hips. I have more pain also from physical therapy. I also noticed my lower back is hurting. I've been bending but not passed my precaution and I bend my knees. The doctor gave a memo to me saying after 3 months he won't give narcotics. Perhaps your doctor will prescribe them one more month for you since you're bilateral. I was in a lot of pain myself. I was taking Lor tabs. I also want to drive and I have to be off the medication to drive. > I am a month post-op bilateral hip replacemants and find I still need > narc pain killers for the muscle soreness if I do what I am supposed > to do re: exercisimg, stretching. Well I hope you feel better . I take one day at a time . Other patient's experiences would be helpful for me to know. I am running out of meds and wonder if the dr will write another Rx or make me tough it out!
