The point is that I THINK that hypercoag is present in CFS, but I don't think it causes symptoms or creates a 'hiding place' for mycoplasma or virii. I never said that hypercoag causes CFS, nor did I imply that anyone else did. My concern is what benefit those who have hypercoag will get when they reverse it. For example, we still haven't seen results showing a lower Karnofsky score before Hypercoag treatment and a much higher one after heparin AND tests showing much lower coagulation. Such a simple trial would do a lot for the theory and show that blood thinning helps as opposed to NO being reduced by the heparin or aspirin. Mike (I know I am part of the problem, but it seems like it's hypercoag, hypercoag hypercoag. Remember Cheney, Cheney, etc.....)
Guest guest
My name is Lori Reaves and I have a 5 year old son, Colton who has DS and autism. Has anyone found a good GI doctor who understands the connection that sometimes exists between digestive problems and autism? Colton craves bread and will eat as much as we allow him to. There is very little else he will eat. I wonder if this is connected to his autism but don't know who to go to to explore this. My pediatrician is willing to order any labs that would be helpful but she needs more knowledge in this area. Thank you, Lori (ericsezl@...) Guest guest
Welcome, Has your son ever had the blood test for Celiac? Funny how we sometimes crave the things that are the worst for us. Where are you from--perhaps some of us have a GI dr. & Garry, parents of (10 ds), (9 ds/g-tube), JJ (7 ds/autism/celiac), (6 ds/ADHD/Celiac), and Esther (3 ds). All adopted. ---------- >From: ericsezl@... >egroups >Subject: Re: Digest Number 607 >Date: Sat, Jan 13, 2001, 2:59 PM > >My name is Lori Reaves and I have a 5 year old son, Colton who has DS >and autism. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Lori ..... I'm , I only joined in November but already I feel like I've been here for years - all these women are wearing me down just reading their mails every day !!! :-) Now, you don't actually say in your mail what digestive problems Colton has, if any, the main one that seems to be associated with DS & ASD is celiac disease, this as you may already know is an intolerance to the gluten found in cereals, bread ectect. The disease manifests itself by a lack of growth in children and by diarrea and distinctive stools. If left untreated can cause gastrointestinal cancer. Much more detail than this can be obtained in the www.celiac.com page. It is detected by firstly doing a blood or urine test to see if certain antibodies are present in the blood, later a biopsy or endoscope probe to see if any physical damage to the small intestine is occurring. The only known cure at present is TOTAL removal of gluten from the diet. However, a craving for bread is not a symptom of celiac. Now, the things that they look for in the blood test can in some children produce a morphine-like substance that can get to and effect the brain and it's functioning & possibly giving rise to the autistic condition. As the effected person is receiving a form of morphine he is in fact *drug addicted* to gluten and as all drug addicts will want his regular *shot* and more if possible !! This could be the reason why Colton craves bread, as did our son Ignacio. This fact gives rise to what is known as the gluten free caesin free (GFCF) diet as a possible paliative to autism. This is where I break for the commercial (I always do but nobody seems to take any notice !!!) Please, Please calling all members CONSIDER the GFCF Diet - its FREE -doesn't use any NASTY drugs - but try it for 6 months and do the ATEC test FIRST !! If you haven't YET been to www.gfcfdiet.com GO NOW, click on Success Stories but have the tissues ready !! Please !! End of break. Just looked in on this site and have found that it contains a list of defeat autism now (DAN) dotors - there may be one near you. The caesin (all milk products ) forms part of the diet as a similar proccess occurs, however in the case of Colton gluten seems to main problem so you could start with just with GF to see what effects it has - the ATEC on -line test is recommended because this method is a slow process as it takes some time for the body to rid itself of the morphines and you will probably forget what he was really like after some time. Ignacio has been on the diet for some 6months now and I can confirm are that his eye contact and attencion have improved measurably and he does not self stim with nails or hair although he does still nash his teeth !! Socialbility has also improved and he will now give kisses to all on demand and to some without asking !! Speech is still lacking and he still has no meaningful play. He only eats gluten-free bread and has no real *craving* as before, bread without gluten is pretty unappetising anyway !!! I hope this gives you some *leads* to follow up on your trip into this subject !!

Guest guest
thanks for the good ideas. I love sweet potatoes raw. If they are cooked they make my mouth feel like I have things crawling in it. Not too pleasant a feeling. I've eaten them raw for years, but I never thought about making hummus with other beans. Good luck with your pickle recipe. I have found butternut squash to be a new veg. that is quite nice on its own. And, also raw turnip and yam, make a good dipper for hummus, and hummus can be made from black eyed peas/beans, or black beans. Guest guest
Hi, You never know how dehydrated you really are. My husband had to be taken to the ER with kidney stones and they formed coz not much water was getting in! His lips would always be dry. Now after the surgery, hes so happy hes able to poop soo easily as opposed to being constipated. There are so many little things that go with A. In my experience, Id suggest to straight, find the best surgeon and get the myotomy, before other complications start to happen!!! Guest guest
Hi everyone, I have not posted in a while, but I do read the messages daily. I had my band placed on October 27th, 2005. It was a little discouraging at the beginning. You want the weight to fall off, but accepting that it takes time is half the battle. I had my first fill the first week of December, 5cc in a 10cc band. I was 207 pounds at surgery, and had only gotten to 197 before the first fill. With the first fill I only lost 3 pounds. I waited it out until after Christmas and then went the first week of January and got 1cc added. I am now down to 165 pounds and I am eating good. No pb'ing lately. I do think I am ready for another fill, just .5cc though. Although it may be costly to fill at such small increments, your body surely does adjust better and the swelling is less. So hooray for me. I am now comfortably in a size 12, and I finally donated all the size 18 and 20's to Goodwill. Hope everyone is doing well. Guest guest
Hi ! I have been thinking of you a lot lately and wondering how you are doing! I kind of had the same experience with fills that you did. I got my second one the end of January ( and Carla, my daughter, got a slight unfill). I lost about 10 more lbs and have been stuck again so maybe I do need another small fill. You are doing great and it sounds like you really dropped a lot of weight after that second fill! I am down to a size 11/12 in stretch jeans and that feels great! So glad to hear from you! Guest guest
Stacey is an honorary member she was banded with another doctor but she is a member of our group because they do not have one with her doctor. Dr. Aceves and other doctors decide what size band to place while they are in the surgery room, some patients need bigger bands because of the way their stomach is, not necesarilly higher BMI patients need bigger bands. We have had low BMI patients that need the larger bands. It depends. Nina > Hi everyone, > > I have not posted in a while, but I do read the messages daily. Guest guest
Hi Tammy, I just got banded 3/14 and I wanted to let you know that there is no fill at all during surgery. Dr A wont do a fill untill at least 8wks post op, some people don't even need one then. There are different sized bands however, I know mine is a large, apparently even my stomach lining is fat, that's how they detemine the band size.
