so glad to hear mom is doing well since her surgery and I can bet

she'll be clawing at the doors to get out of that hospital today..LOL

Give her hugs and tell her to be sure and follow her own advice..

rest, let herself be spoiled for a few days and just take it easy.

We'll be looking forward to hearing more.

She remains in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,

Hi Sharon, How old is your Mom? I was 57 when I had my right total Hip replacement done and was in a nursing home for two weeks and when I was 59 almost I had my right knee replacement done and went in a nursing home again two differant ones and both where bad to be in and your in a wheel chair for two weeks to me thats way my Hip didn't work out right My knee is better but my leg is numb and hurts if I walk to far and I have no ROM . I think your mom was smart to leave when she did. Well you have a nice day. SusieS <sbratcher@...> wrote: Mom came home from the rehab center today. I was expecting that middle of next week but this morning she called and said that lotsof people were coughing and she wanted out of there before she got sick. So she talked PT into releasing her and then talked to the doctor. So at 3PM she called and said come and get her.She was released to go to her own apartment so that is where she is.I checked everything and stayed until 10PM so I could watch and she how she was getting along. I'll go back tomorrow morning. We have to call outpatient PT tomorrow and set up appts for

that.Sharon

Suzanne, Mom will be 75 next month. I'm headed over to her apt before to long. They are suppose to be delivering a walker and stool riser. Was suppose to last night but never did. Since she just moved in there first of May I'm going to try and do a little organizing. Some of my nieces put things away during the move and they aren't where mom really wants them. I'll have to make a trip to the grocery today and pick up a few things for her. SharonSuzanne Snyder <juneflower63@...> wrote: Hi Sharon, How old is your Mom? Thank heaven the place Mom was wasn't like the place you discribed. But the first morning they did seat her at a table with two people who were so drugged up they didn't know where they were and the other person kept saying that she didn't know why her son had put her there. It was kind of depressing for her. The place was clean and didn't have a bad smell at all. Needed some decorating updating that is for sure. Mom is very happy to be home. Sharonreynawhitehawk <ReynaWhitehawk@...> wrote: Hi Sharon,I'm happy to hear your Mom is doing well enough to go back to her own place. Still I know how she feels about not feeling comfortable being where she was. When I had my LTKR done in March, my OS sent me to a nursing home that was now taking rehab patients in. Evidently this place had just contracted with them to start taking new patients. When the ambulancepeople rolled me in there, I about had a heart attack. It smelled disgusting, people were yelling and crying, lined up in the hallways in their wheel chairs. They put me in this room with no walker, I couldn't even use the rest room..which was filthy anyway. No phone either. It was so noisy, the lady in the room with me had the TV blasting with the food channel. I will never have that on my TV again...LOL.Anyway, I lasted in this place for about 5 hours and checked myself

out. They finally "found" a walked for me, and "borrowed" a vicodin from another patient so i could have some pain relief. I had no CPM machine and nobody would be in the PT department till Monday...this was a Saturday afternoon. I had everything I needed at home, including a CPM and pain meds. So I made the choice to check myself out, and the 2 days later started in home PT. Sometimes I wonder if that's what set me back so far in my recovery, even making it so I had to have the manipulation a few weeks ago. But there was no way in hell I was gonna stay in that filrthy place...people were just there waiting to die.I'm still very angry that my OS sent me there, and after the earful I gave him...more than once....I wonder if he's sent anyone else there!!Your Mom will keep doing fine, probably better now that she's in her own home. I was so happy to be in my own place.Deb>> Mom came home from the rehab center today. Sherrie, I really think she is doing great. Especially when you think that a week ago she was sent to rehab because she wasn't well enough to go to my house. Now she is in her own apartment and doing well. Of course I have been there alot but at least she is feeling better and moving around slowly. A friend brought her taco and cake for dinner last night and also some fresh things from the garden for lunch today. My brother brought in one of the wheeled walkers with a seat on it yesterday that he had borrowed. I'm actually thinking about putting a medal 9 x 13 baking pan on the seat held on by two bunge cords. that way she could use it to get things from one place to another. I've caught her a couple of times just holding onto things instead of using her walker. She has something on the other walker for carrying

some things but I was think more about food. Getting from kitchen to dining table. Sharon that is a good idea I was wondering how I would get my morning coffee to my computer or say a bowl of cereal to the table or whatever else that I could not put in a bag as I will be home all day by myself when I get home from Hospital. I glad that she is doing so well. SherrieSharon <sbratcher@...> wrote: Sherrie, I really think she is doing great. She is very happy to be home. I stopped by there last night and changed the dressing and it looks pretty good. She goes Monday morning to have the staples out and then to PT right after that. I thought it was very nice of PT to be willing to work her in so that I don't have to drive that twice that day. One strange thing is I asked her where her flowers were and she said they were sitting on the deck to get some sun. This is a basket of CUT flowers. I asked where the other two arrangements were and she had moved them closer to the window. Again so they would get some sun. I told her "Mom these flowers don't need sun" actually probably last longer without direct sun. Otherwise she seems just fine. Her range of motion was a little less on Friday at PT than it had been at the rehab. But that was with

once day of no rehab in there. She said she did all her exercises yesterday so hopefully getting the staples out tomorrow will help. Sharon,

Don't worry, the anesthesia does make you a little goofy for a bit.

She's probably just a little bit spacy after that stuff. I did some

strange things my husband says for a couple of weeks when I got

home...he says stranger than normal. The worst thing was not being

able to sleep though, and having no appetite (although I've lost lots

more weight!). So if she mentions those 2 things, that's normal as

well.

She'll be able to progress more with her ROM when she gets her

staples out Monday so she'll feel good about that I'm sure. That was

a big day for me. But it went much better than I thought it would.

In addition to her getting out to church today. That will do wonders

for her heart and soul :)

I'm glad she's doing so well, I'll say a prayer for her while I'm in

church today.

I think the way we approcah our pt can speed up our recovery as well...my home pt guy gives me stretches and lifts and things to do at home, and I do them 5, maybe 6 times a day. I push myself. I think that's a huge difference in the young vs. older patients, and also what makes our recoveries so different. Unfortunately I don't know how you make a 70 yr. old get up and do anything if they don't want to.

I'm wondering if there is something else going on. Perhaps she is enjoying

the attention. We all need attention some time.

Give her a hug from me
