I had both of my hips replaced at age 54 but not at the same time. The left was in 1/01 and the right in 7/01 so surgeries were 6 months apart. As you can see that was 3 years ago. The replacements did give me my life back.....was very crippled before and walked with a crutch for over a year. The hips are great and, like almost everyone else, wish I had done them sooner. You seem to be doing very well now and let me tell you.....it only gets better.

Hi,

I had a bilateral hip replacement going on 5 weeks ago and I'm

doing good. I have muscle tightness and soreness but I have been off

the pain medication for 2 weeks now. I wanted to be able to drive.

I'm biting the bullet so to speak. I'm 48 and I hope I'll be able to

walk normally again instead of limping. I'm on a cane now. I can do

most things in the house also. I try to keep with the precautions: no

bending, no crossing legs, no twisting and no raising knees to chest.

I was fortunate. I was able to drive relatively short distances

after four weeks. However, I spent a few days sitting in my parked

car merely practicing the leg movements and, in effect, doing PT.

It worked. However, for the first couple of weeks I limited my

driving to about 15 minutes each way. I experienced discomfort after

about a half-hour of driving.
