Guest guest
You're probably right, y, minds won't be changed. At the risk of sounding pedantic, people tend to perceive things as they aare set to see them, as they were taught to see them, as their deeply ingrained value system tells them to see things. Also we tend to share the opinions of people that we would like to be like, even though we aren't like them, and may never be. Famous stars are a good example. Why is Charlton Heston the spokesmouth of the NRA? Probably because there are people that will accept his point of view because he is Charlton Heston, not necessarily because he speaks in a logical fashion. The right wing speaks out all the time. Fox Network still lives. Perhaps it's time the left wing in the US to stop being so diplomatic (and frightened!) The Democrats in recent years seem to mouth the same nonsense as those on the right. Europeans were born in a similar manner to Americans, from women who were fertilized by men, and so were Canadians. But their ways of perceiving " social benefits " is completely different. Why is that? I hesitate to say for fear that I would be interpreted as being anti-American, which I'm not. I found while living in the US that it isn't alway easy to express values that are different from those also who express different opinions. However, I would like to see " my people " investigate issues more deeply before forming fixed judgments. Why didn't Germany and France leap blindly into the Irak morasse? They wanted more information. Were they right or wrong? Your answer depends on many things. One question that could be asked, if people were willing to listen to the response, is " Who is like to benefit and who possibly receive less benefit from a national health plan in the US? " I've lived several years in countries other than the US, although I lived most of my life in the US, and I find comparing attitudes toward government responsibilty an interesting pasttime. May your gods bless you. Guest guest
Bem If I had three children, I could share my love with all three, could I not? Isn't it possible to share one's love for more than one country? Does it mean that if I like certain things about Germany or France that I don't have room to like the U.S. As Americans, don't we have the right to express opinions without being accused of not liking America? To like something is not a like or hate situation. There are lots of degrees in between, aren't there, Ben? By the way, WW II was a long time ago. A lot of things have changed since then. What do you mean by my " diatribe. " I find your use of that word interesting. As Bertrand once said, " When talks about , we often learn more about than we do . " (I like both and , okay, Ben?) Peace, Big Ben. Guest guest
y The one good thing a side bar from the topic gives you is the chance to forget about joint replacements. Takes the mind away. Makes you realize there is more to life. Makes you think, gets the brain moving and the blood flowing. Now lets all play nicely and give a big group {{{{hug}}}! Guest guest
I agree y. I suggested on another post a hippie site for people who want to talk about hippie and non-hippie topics. Neutrally yours, staninfr > Folks......you're getting political and getting into side arguments that have > nothing to do with total joints.
