Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, I am so sorry you had a dislocation, and now need another surgery. How scary. Dislocation is a major fear of most of us preparing for surgery, and we all hate to hear of it happening, esp. if you were not doing anything out of the ordinary. I have no personal knowledge about the constrainer cup. The only thing I know is a similar device was mentioned in one of the many hip replacement books I read. Don't even remember which one, and I don't thing they gave that name. But it did say it worked quite well to prevent future dislocations. In fact I considered asking for one, just so I wouldn't have to worry about dislocations after I have my hip replaced, but didn't know the correct name. I also don't know how much it restricts your range of motion. But if you have been suffering for 23 years, I am guessing you are quite used to limited range of motion. Do you have OA or RA? At least you only have a little over a week to go. Best of luck to you.
Guest guest
Carolyn I wish you the best in what's coming up. I'm only 8 1-2 weeks out from under the knife, and I live in constant fear of having the same experience. Did you raise your bed? I bought something called (in France) Elephant feet, that raised my bed to a level that makes getting in and out of bed less worrysome (with a little experience). Courage. Staninfrance > I am a new member and would appreciate any help from the group because it is a very scary time in my life at this time. > On June 28, 2004 my left hip was replaced. I spend 5 days in rehab and then returned home with a visit to rehab three times per week. On July 21, 2004 while getting out of bed my new hip dislocated. The doctor has scheduled a second operation for Aug. 9th to put a constrainer cup in the socket because of my muscles being weak after 23 years of not using them. I am not overweight and do try to take care of myself, but put the operation off until there was no choice. > I am on medication so it is difficult to focus on this writing and explain perhaps details the group may need. I am just waiting for the 9th and the closer the date the harder it is to accept. I am in a brace from my waist to my knee. > Thank you in advance if anyone has experienced this before and will give me words of do's and don't. > I want to get back to work and just be a human agian. > > > > > carolynharle@e... Guest guest
Corolyn Have not had your experience, just similar fear. I'm sorry to hear you have to have a second surgery, and so soon. Sounds like your doc has a fix for whatever is happening, and after the repair you should get better very quick. A couple months of recovery can make a big difference and put all this misery behind you. There are thousands of people walking around on artificial hips so it is a proven solution for bad hips. I'm older with arithitis and cannot do a lot of exercise so my muscles are weak also. My os had a patient dislocate while doing pt so took me off it after first visit. Gave me only a couple exercises to strengthen specific muscles ,and said walk for exercise. Some things I have done is I raised my bed to 15 inches before surgery and like the extra height getting in and out of bed. My fear is dislocating while asleep and maybe you could have been on way out before making you exit moves. I do a heel raise or two flat on back before trying to do the exit. Also, I have a full body pillow that so far stays between my legs in spite of my turning to left and now at 8 weeks to right side sometimes. Until you get off pain killer suggest you pack pillows against both sides in addition to between legs to prevent movement while sleeping.
