Guest guest
Hello, I agree that my first thought would be that it should be every 4 hours. However, when my 3 girls have had amoxicillin the last couple of times that they have been sick, the pharmacist puts on the label " tid " which should be three times a day, but they explained to my father when he picked it up it had to be every 8 hours. So I would also look at the " qid " as every 6 hours. I definetly do not like waking a 4 year old, a 3 year old and a 10 1/2 month old up in the middle of the night to give them their medicine, but that is what the pharmacist had instructed. I hope that I am not confusing you when you have to do the exam tomorrow. Good Luck. I was very scared when I wrote it, but I did alot better than I thought. I travelled about 4 hours to get to Michigan to write it (I am from Ontario Canada) and then didn't get a hotel room until 3 am. All my kids had to come, so my youngest was up until about 4 am and I had to get up at 6 am to find the place as I had no idea where it was. I actually got up at 6:30 am, but that only gave me about 3 1/2 hours sleep and yet I was really awake and managed to do very well on my exam. I studied while taking care of 2 kids and was pregnant, then had my third girl while trying to study. Taking care of 3 young children (one being a new born) and I still did very well. So everyone out there, do not worry, if I could do it, you can all do fine! GOOD LUCK TO ALL kerplooeyurdone4 <pschwart@...> wrote: Okay, I deserve a break in studying and I need to vent. I have various books and, here on the final day to study, I am taking all of the tests in the books as a final measure. Here I am in Delmar's, Chapter 22, question 27 " 1 tab qid could mean: 1: take one tablet twice a day. 2. Take one tablet four times a day. 3. take one tablet every 6 hours. 4. both 2 and 3 " Okay, that's a no brainer, right folks, it reads one tablet four times a day. But the Delmar's answer is #4 both 2 and 3 !! I'm furious! Do I have a right to be? I was always taught that every 6 hours is Q6H. QID is four times a day. You don't wake a patient for a QID dose! This book is ticking me off. Does the REAL exam have a lot of this " answer #4 = #2 and 3# " crap or is that just a Delmar quirk? Back to studying. Kerp. BTW No one in Milwaukee reads these posts or no one wants to go out for a beer? I'm up for a coke and fries as well, anything to unwind with a fellow PTCB candidate. ---------------------------------
Guest guest
When a medication is written as qid, especially when it's an antibiotic, I tend to tell people that the 'ideal' situation is to take the medication every 6 hours around the clock. But if that's not feasible then split it evenly 4 times during the day (waking, lunch, mid-afternoon, evening). If you look at taking something 4 times in 24 hours, then you do have every 6 hours (24 houst divided by 4 equals 6 hours) BTW, don't quiz yourself too much. You'll second guess yourself. Going with your first instinct is usually the best thing (at least for me). Get some sleep!
