Hi....I work in pharmacy automation. My job involves packaging and

barcoding drugs for robots/eMAR and also running robots for

cartfill. I also hire, train, and schedule PRN techs to help me

meet the packaging needs of the hospitals. The smallest hospital

site I have is less than 200 beds, my other site is just over. I

also work PRN for 2 other sites (robot sites) that have 400+ beds.

I hope to become a local if not regional supervisor in the near

future.

Hi Carmelita-

The technicians I hire must be PTCB certified and registered with

the state board but usually have little or no experience. In fact,

I usually place job postings at my local community college (it has a

CPhT program) to recruit new techs. When I left retail, I had a lot

of trouble finding a hospital job because I had no hospital

experience or IV experience. It was very frustrating because I took

an ACPE approved IV certification class but still no one would give

me a chance. I guess that is why I sympathize and solicit the new

techs in the area....beside IV certification/experience is not

necessary for my position or the positions I hire for since all we

do is automation. I do however work PRN at another hospital (one

weekend a month) as an IV tech to keep my IV skills current. If I

ever decide to change jobs, I don't want to have the same trouble I

had before! My advice to you is to take an ACPE approved IV

certification class if you are not already IV certified and if it is

offered locally. Then just be persistent...
