Guest guest
Dear Downward: The following is what it reads on that site: " Pharmacy Technician No prerequisites are required. This comprehensive 50-hour didactic course will prepare you to enter the pharmacy field in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies and community pharmacies, or as an ancillary to work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content will include medical terminology specific to the pharmacy reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. You will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, and drug compounding and dose conversions. Dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control, billing and reimbursement will also be discussed. Class curriculum designed by Condensed Curriculum International, Inc. Cost includes textbook and learning materials. Registration deadline: Sept. 3. 10 Tues./Thurs. Sept. 7 - Nov. 16 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. Bldg. 3 - Rm. 313 CRN 81740 Fee $949 " NO WHRRE odesit say that it is a partner with PTCB! Had it I would have been the first to report it to and quesiton the PTCB. They do not endorse any program and do not accredit CE. I can only say that 50 hours is NOTHING!!! and I FEEL THAT YOU CAN LEARN ON YOUR OWN ALL THAT THEY WILL BE TEACHING YOU FOR $949 . But then again perhaps you may need the support and the networking of a classroom to learn the math. Perhpas that is worth it to you. I find it extremely expensive. My students get 972 hours for about $9000 , so in essence it is about $10 per 100 hours. Of the 972 hours 320 are internship. So 652 are in classroom. I am insulted to think that they will charge you so much for memorization that YOU do of the trade and generic! You see given a list (which you can get from this site: TOP 200 Drugs, you can look them up on the net with rxlist.com andn learn their classification and memorize them yourself. Easier buy a review book that has them listed already for you. Flow rates? math? here on this site are some tutorials and 'us' to help you, but you need a book too! I am appauled at this!!! Yes $9000 is expensive but it is giving you hands on andn an externship. What you have when you are done with that class is an OVERVIEW of what I teach in 8.5 months in depth to go out and 'do'. I think you can do better than that on the web. Perhaps I am wrong. Some will cost $1500 but I think much better. Let's see if anyone else can recommend another online distance learning. One in San diego Ca is or was last year about $750 and offered a lot more! I would nix this one. If you can please check the link below out to tell me whether it's worth investing into that would be great. I really don't want to waste my time and money if it's no good. Their program is provided by Condensed Cirriculum and so I checked their website out and saw that PCTB was one of their partners, but I just want to make sure this is true and that this program will help me get started. Thanks for any help. http://www.bhc.edu/bcec/professional/Health_Care.htm
Guest guest
Jeanetta, If you don't mind, may I know what are the prep courses required before acceptance in your program? -- Lynn -- > Hi, there's a program that I'm considering taking but I don't know > if it's any good. Guest guest
Dear Lynn, The vocational school that I teach at does NOT require any prep courses except to say a high school diploma or concurrent GED classes. One MUST have a HS diploma or equivalent to graduate from our program and to be a California Rx Technician. Our course DOES require the passing of an entrance exam that one can not prepare for. I know of NO voc school (in Ca) that has prep courses (but there may be one out there). However there may be a private AS course that does. I believe that the courses at Junior College may also. I do not know. Hope this helps, Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS Chem Pharm Tech Educator > Jeanetta, > If you don't mind, may I know what are the prep courses required > before acceptance in your program? -- Lynn -- >
Guest guest
Dear All, Yes the logo of PTCB is there on this page: http://www.condensedcurriculum.com/about/partners.htm It does NOT mean that PTCB is aware of it. I doubt it very very much. Why? because PTCB makes a point of not affiliating itself with any specific school or program which would be a conflict of interest in my personal and professional opinion. It does however endorse ASHP model curriculum. I have found NOTHING on this site to mention accreditation and or ASHP accreditation or approval or any thing like this. I am leary of any company or any one that may use another company's logo without their permission. While it is very possible that PTCB has allowed its logo to be used, I doubt it very very much. In addition, PTCB is very picky as to which company or organization it allows to be a link on their site; in the link section. Interestingly I did NOT find CCI on/in its (PTCB's) link menu. I am very proud that this site is on the PTCB link menu. However I have taken a longer look at this CCI site. I am interested in knowing how you, Candy, got the monetary quote (the cost of the PTech program). In addition let me say this: if the cost includes an internship then it is a bargain, as you are then paying for an internship or on the job training in addition to the 50 hours of school work. However the amount of time in class is too short to learn all you need to know BEFORE you intern in my opinion. If however you have to pay more for an internship then I say it is BS that the 50 hours of information can be obtained from a good book. Candy can you tell me more? Remember these are only my opinions, Thanks Jeanetta CPHT F/O > Hi J, > I looked and it's there. A big bold green PTCB logo. On the partnerships page. Take a look. > >
