had gone thru my externship first. Only 2 out of the 14 in my class

are taking the exam next week. We have our last day of school on the

22nd of july and start our 5 weeks of extern on the 26th. Im so

excited, and so nervous.

Just wanted to share with everyone takeing the exam next week and to

wish them all good luck!

,

Good Luck. Just a note to boost your confidence, although all students

taking the test different, it sounds like you are a hard working, diligent

student. Of the students I've had who have decided to take before the end of

their

program, I've only had one that was unsuccessful on the first attempt (I've

had 11 sit before end of program) - and he took it before the end of the 1st

semester of classes (in Nov) - when he retook it in March, he passed. All of

my students who passes were within a month of completion of the course work,

and I worked with them on the material that had not been covered in class.

As Jeanetta has listed - follow some pre-test relaxation - it will help your

brain function better. Just a couple I stress to my students:

Get a good nights rest the night before - stop studying early evening - if

you don't know it by then, you're not going to learn it by " cramming " - and

with a clear head, you will probably recall more than you think you know.

Eat a light breakfast - getting hungry during the exam will distract you -

you may feel queasy in the morning (I usually do when I'm nervous) - this may

help quell that tool.

Avoid caffinated beverages (remember caffiene is a diuretic) - stick with

juice and milk.

Get there a couple of minutes early and relax before going in - I do deep

breathing and my mom's old stand by - I say a Hail .

" Take 2 " - aspirin, apap, .... Take what ever you take for a headache, as

profilaxes - may sound weird, but it works - you will stress and tense during

the exam - most people when completed, complain of a headache - fight it off

before it happens - (this is another of " mom's rules " ) - I've been doind this

since high school (over 20 years) when I know I'm going into something

stressful - tests, interviews - it's worked pretty well so far.

The night before - make a crib sheet of last minute facts or formulas that

you are having difficulty remembering. 2 Reasons - first, the writing of the

information helps your brain record it, second - before you go into the exam -

committ it to short term memory, LEAVE IT IN THE CAR, after the instructions

are given and you are told you can start the exam - BEFORE reading a single

question, on your scrap paper - list the information that was on your crib

note. Leave it be until you need it - the information will not have been

confused by a question- and you've only brought in with you what was in your

head.

If you can - plan to go to lunch or do something fun in the afternoon to

take your mind off the test - once you've completed - you can only wait for the

results. If you've truely done your best, you deserve a reward - ENJOY.

Good Luck to all !!!!

In the files section Dora has posted some simialr ideas to what Anne has written

a long time ago. So I suggest that you read those as well.

I plan to add some if not all of what Anne wrote (after I do some

formatting/spellcheck etc!) :)

Any way both are great reads and advice!!!

Ann has some great advice. A couple of days before a big exam, I give

myself a " day off " from studying. I spend the day relaxing and

doing " right brain " activities. The break helps me keep things in

perspective.
