Hi, Jen - I feel, and think most docs agree, that liquids for 24 hrs

after a fill is always wise, to allow the stoma to rest and heal. Any

manipulation of he toma - fill OR unfill - usually casues some

swelling. The fluids for 24 hrs becomes even more important as the

fills get tighter, and will never HURT. 4 days is not needed, though,

imo.

By 3-5 days max after a new fill, we should be able to tolerate a

decent band-sized meal of about a cup of mostly-solid food, including

meat, chicken, fish, etc. This is one of the tests of a good fill -

vs one that is too tight for safety.

More on fills in the 3 fill documents here in the files, if you'd

like to learn more.

good luck with this fill! hope it gets you closer to " really good " .

I was just wondering if I need to do the liquid diet for 4 days or

can I eat solids if I can tolerate them? Is the liquid diet

recommended because of swelling?

Hi Ron,

I had the same problem.  My first fill was 4cc's and it didn't make much of a

difference.  Last week I had another fill and I have close to 6cc's in my band

now.  (I have the new VG band it holds 10cc).  The first week I am very

restricted due to the swelling caused by the fill.  I definitely have

restriction now but I think one more small fill and I will be at my " sweet

spot " .  Make sure that you are eating bulky foods and not soft foods that will

slide through the band.  Continue to get small fills and don't get discouraged!

I didn't feel any restriction until I had my second fill a week ago. I have

a 10cc band and I now have 5cc's in it. First fill was 2cc's, second fill was

3cc's. Due for fill #3 in 3 weeks and will have another half to 1 cc. I

really have to chew chew chew now or it hurts like HE - double hockey sticks.

I understand that. Its just that I see him once a month and I know I won't

need a fill at that point but there is an evaluation he does with his bandsters

and we have to answer the questions truthfully and by the answers he goes

over them to see if we really need one. He goes over what we have eaten, etc...

I am on a 1000 cal diet unless I go to the gym or walk...then its increased

to 1200 cal. I am allowed 100-120g of carbs and I make sure I get in my

water/fluids. I follow the guidelines and walk 1-2 miles a day on lunch break

and

after supper. I know what my limitations are and don't over do it.

, it looks as if you're doing fine - so please be sure you

really need more fill. there is no such thing as " due " for more fill -

they should be given only when we meet he criteria for really

needing more, and never on any kind of set schedule. We always want

as little fill as possible to still do well - never as much as we can

possibly stand. the more fill, the more risk of problems, including

the very serious ones.

you might want to review the " when do i need more fill? " document in

the files to be sure you really need more.

just want you to avoid troubles!

Wow, good for your doc fo having a questionnaire to help assess

eating, fill needs, etc!

Kudos!!

you're losing quite fast, though, so please be sure you're getting at

least 1200-1500 cal a day, and meeting the nutrition goals re

protein, etc.

It's always tempting to ty to lost as fast as possible, but , after 5

yrs advising people, I know a great many get into trouble this way.

Sounds as if your doc is keeping an eye on you, but also YOU need to

do the right thing too - most docs know very little about nutrition,

especially surgeons.

IMO, that's too little for a safe an lasting loss. I don't believe

you can

be meeting the protein, fiber, calcium, omega 3 oils, etc in less

than 1200 cal minimum.

if you are, please let me know how - cuz I researched this heavily

with a PhD nutritionist and could not find a food plan that met all

the goals in less than 1200-1500 cal a day.

If you go to the gym, your cal need for an average workout will

increase the day's needs by about 300 cal - to 1500-1800.

This is what i have found, and teach - but you surely can decide for

yourself what you choose to do. I've found, though, that tose

deficient set their metabolism 'set-point " way too low, ad then very

easily refain when hey must eat more to maitain later. you surely

cannot exist on 1000 cal day for the rest of your life.

My thoughts only...

Is there a possibility that " aging " is synonomous with hypothyroid?

Not if you look up the facts. There is a reason they often treat HYPER thryoidism with fluoride--it blocks the tT3 cells. But are getting away from that as I understand because there is some who strongly believe that can cause thyroid cancer. dorothyroeder <dorothyroeder@...> wrote: Is there a possibility that "aging" is synonomous with hypothyroid?Dorothy>> Hello,> Would any of the members here happen to be a dermatologist? I would like to know that also. I started graying at age 23. Nobody in

my whole family, either side had early graying. My mother didn't start

to gray until she went through a few years of her 10 year cancer

journey. My sister told me she heard that premature graying can be a

sign of hypo. Just wondering. Hope someone has this answer.

, Try mixing colloidal silver 10ppm and swedish bitters. I would say 85% colloidal silver and 15% swedish bitters. Before applying above liquid, apply some coconut oil first on his skin so it will not dry out due to the swedish bitters. This works well for me, hope it works for your Dad too.

Hi, - this is very, very soon to have had 3 fills already!

the first can safely be given at about 6 weeks, and then more monthly

IF needed. we need to creep up very slowly with fills so the stomach

gets used to the pressure, and also so we can adjust and refine our

eating.

I think you're having trouble since you're going too fast, and have

not had time to learn the band rules. THis is really not safe, imo.

6 times in 2 weeks is a lot, and you're risking problems. No one

knows how many barfs it takes to cause a slip or start an erosion -

but none is best. i'd say more than 1-2 a month is too much, but we

all goof as we are learning.

If you know what is causing the barfing, you really must work on

correcting it. if you are still barfing, you really need some fill

out until you're having no trouble. then you can try a bit more if

needed. After a barf, be sure to stop that meal, and haveliquids only

for the next meal or two, to allow the stoma to rest and heal.

The 26# loss in 2 months is good only if you're losing safely,

meeting nutrition goals, and not having trouble - and i'm afraid you

ARE having trouble.

Why are you getting fills so quickly? Does your doc have some kind of

set routine (which isn't a very good idea, imo) , or are you using an

inexperienced person perhaps, or?

You may wish to try iodine and also try virgin coconut oil. You can take it

internally as well as using it like a lotion. Prostate cancer is tied to an

iodine deficiency.

Question

And so I too have embarked on the life changing journey of weightloss. I have a sleeve date /w/ Dr. Aceves on August 5th Is anyone joining me on that date? I'd love to meet you.

I have been a member of this group and began researching weightloss surgery in April 2005. I was unaware that there was a procedure called 'the sleeve', so I only researched 'the band'. Well I have to thank the powers that be because had I not been fired from my job and lost my health insurance, and then later denied insurance from private and corporate insurance companies then I would would not be where I am now ..... on my way to getting a sleeve.

I can say I am glad I sold my stocks *which were supposed to have been for my retirement* to get the money for the surgery, however, honestly , I doubt that if I woud have continued to do nothing about my health, * or lack there of* then I would not make it to retirement age.

Ohh anyway sorry about my ramblin' on my question is....

I am getting my duckies in a row and need to know what I'll be needing post op.

Please be very detail orentied!

Yes you can take iodine with thyroid meds. Another thing you might look into is getting on a good thyroid medication like Armour Thyroid, Nature-throid. They contain both T3 & T4 hormones and tend to offer more relief of hypo symptoms than the synthetics you are on.

Steph

Question

Hi all,

I am just starting on iodine. I did not do the loading test, but I did paint iodine on my belly to see if it was still there in 24 hours. It actually was gone in 2 hours. I started on 12.5 each morning and so far I have not noticed anything different. I guess I need more. But my question is can I take it at the same time I take my thyroid meds? (I take 175 Synthroid twice a day and 12.5 Cytomel twice a day as well.)
