Excellent Val - you obviously have a very similar relationship with your endocrinologist as I have with mine. I have another 6 monthly appointment with mine on 8th October, and I know that both he and myself really enjoy these. As I do not have any thyroid problems left and am very well, we devote the whole of the session to talking about our campaigns and he makes many notes. It was he who craved the correct information regarding natural thyroid extract and has encouraged me to carry on with my campaigning when life was pretty difficult, and he also talks to his colleagues in Yorkshire about the work we are doing. These colleagues are also trying Armour and combination therapy on their patients, so it does work if you are open and honest with your endo. There are some good one's out there, but as Val says , keep lists and charts of everything so they understand exactly where you are coming from.

luv - Sheila

..

So basically go in with a positive view & have loads of questions (make notes of their replies if you need to) and tell him exactly how you are in all ways & everything (including all you are taking & why) that could even only be slightly relevant. If he does not help then he is not the right endo for you, and so get another one. There are some very good ones out there.

Val

I just dont want to go in and start saying I am doing this and I am doing that, he will think whats she here for if she knows it all? Thats the best way to get his/here back up and send me away with no help

Hi alice, They do on the PIL inside, but in not quite so blunt a fashion, but it is there- it's such a pity that docs do not read it thenselves. Re: question Hi,Although my knowledge of this is not great I would agree with what you are saying. Whilst researching the net I came across this:"Rxmed: Pharmaceutical Info... Contraindications.. Levothyroxine is contraindicated in patients with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency, as thyroid hormones increase tissue demands for adrenocortical hormones.'Maybe they should put this on the packets.Love Alice ------------------------------------TPA is not medically qualified. Diphenhydramine (the stuff in dramamine & over-the-counter allergy meds like

benadryl) can help w/nausea. They also have a side-effect of making you sleepy,

so it might help in resting if you're having any difficulty due to the pain.

There are many prescription meds to help w/nausea also which affected me on one

of the pain meds I took. I know finances are tight for you, so if you ask your

dr for a medication keep in mind that generally ones that have been on the

market longer are less expensive & usually have generics available. Reglan

worked well for me. I can't remember right now the others I've taken, but some

work better depending on what you already have on board. You'll have to see how

well the new pain medication works for you. Sometimes the nausea will go away

after a while once your body gets used to the new med. Sometimes you have to

switch to a different pain med if you can't tolerate it. It's a strange little

dance. A very frustrating one!

As for the foam supports you were asking about. Some providers cover them if

your dr has suggested them. I've gone to a local medical supply company with a

script for a gel cushion to sit on & they gave me a whole box of gel to use w/my

tens unit at no charge. Sometimes just seeing ppl over & over while u r in

pain...they start to feel compassion for you & will help u out with little

'perks'. What they freely give you might not be worth a lot of money, but if it

saves you a dollar...well, u know what I mean. ~Moonbeam

Hi there,NHS is here in good ole England(national health service) which,if

people are on certain benefits,we get scripts and treatment free(although all

surgeries etc are free unless u go private) I havent had surgery yet,I was

diagnosed with scolisosis when  I was 11 and recieved no treatment, its only been

the last 6months or so that I have managed to change doctor and get referred to

a consultant.Xrays showed my curvature is quite bad and my disks have rotated

and has tilted my pelvis,I have had a MRI scan which I am due to find out the

results of 13th Nov,thanks to this site,I now know what questions to ask.so

hopefully I will be able to come back that day and explain whats

happening!thanks for listening

Hi, I don't know what kind of curve(s) you have, but one thing that will help

over time mostly is bending into the bigger curve, hold 30 sec., stand upward

for maybe 30 secs. and bend for another 30 secs.  Do 10 reps every day, at least

twice a day.  Something that also may is laying sideways, putting a small pillow

under the hip on the side opposite of your curve.  You can stay like that as

long as you like.  I liked doing that on the floor, because, the bed and sofa

weren't firm foundations for this.  None of the Nsaids helped you?  You may want

to talk to your doctor about possibly getting a cortisone shot at the biggest

source of your pain.  Pain relief can last up to three months.  Ice may help.

I hope you will fell well soon.

stretches with(the young modeltype women in it bend over backwards & feet past

their heads-dnt think I will b goin that  far lol)I know its goin to hurt for a

few days while I start building up a bit of strength but hopefully itl make me

feel a bit better.Dont find tablets much cop,I do try not to take them unless I

really really need them as I dnt wanna end up worrying about my liver aswell! My

ex husband had cortisone injections into his shoulder and it caused more harm

than good so its kinda put me off a bit.Looking forward to knowing a bit more

about my curvature on 13th,i dnt even know what degree my curve is yet!so Im way

behind, consultant has talked to me about possible spinal fusion so I guess it is

To get some respite from aches or pain, you should ALWAYS rest on the side

that goes against the curve. The worst thing you can do is to lie on that

side which goes with the curve.

Thank you, Lida.  I should have explained that better.  Put the pillow on the

same side that is against the curve.  'Opposite' wasn't a good word.

I have a good one for those of you with really tender backs from too

many surgeries... I have been diagnosed with positional sleep apnea...

I only have it when I am on my back. Mostly I prefer sleeping on my

sides anyway because of pain but the doctor in all honesty said well

you should sew a tennis ball to your pj top so you won't roll on your

back... WELL.... if I rolled on a tennis ball in the middle of the

night, hit my spine in the right location which is about 90 percent of

it, someone would be scrapping me off the ceiling in the morning...

and if I survived I would probably not be a very happy camper. I think

I prefer a somewhat restless night to mind- numbing pain...

Doctors... you got to love them sometimes.

Out of curiosity - why do you feel that way?  I sleep on the side of my worst

curve every night.  If I sleep on the other side it is very uncomfortable.  Sara

To get some respite from aches or pain, you should ALWAYS rest on the side

that goes against the curve. The worst thing you can do is to lie on that

side which goes with the curve.

Lida in London

Re: question

Hi, I don't know what kind of curve(s) you have, but one thing that will

help over time mostly is bending into the bigger curve, hold 30 sec., stand

upward for maybe 30 secs. and bend for another 30 secs. Do 10 reps every

day, at least twice a day. Something that also may is laying sideways,

putting a small pillow under the hip on the side opposite of your curve.

You can stay like that as long as you like. I liked doing that on the

floor, because, the bed and sofa weren't firm foundations for this. None of

the Nsaids helped you? You may want to talk to your doctor about possibly

getting a cortisone shot at the biggest source of your pain. Pain relief

can last up to three months. Ice may help.

I hope you will fell well soon.

Sara,

Ask any scoliosis surgeon and they will tell you, and this is advice from

Great Ormond Street. If you do NOT have an S curve but just one, the point

is not to encourage the curve but to sleep on the side that goes against the

curve - as if you were straightening it out. It makes sense not to " help "

the deformity.

Oh that hurts just thinking about it! My GP manages my pain ( well she

writes my scripts) and she would never suggest anything like that.

Sara, normally, it's the side that's not comfortable to sleep on that one would

put the pillow under the hip.  As another said, it's to help the muscles.

Speak to your doctor. As long as he/she will sign the necessary form you will be

able to get the handicap tag or plate.

Mike's post made me think of a question I have about the handicap tags.

What did you have to go through to get one?

I have been debating on it because sometimes a walk from the parking

lot doesnt bother me much and sometimes I rather not walk at all. I

have always said I didnt want one because I didnt want to take

the park away from some little old lady with a walker. But the more I

look around me I see people abusing it and I am hurting making the trip

from the end of the parking lot to the door. So my mind is made up.

Plus all of my family keeps telling me I need to get one.

Here the county court clerk where you get your tags has an application that you

fill out. You get your doctor to fill out the information stating you cannot

walk over a certain amount of area without a lot of pain or whatever the case

may be. The state handles it.

They do not question anything they hand out the things like candy around here. I

know because we helped some patients fill them out at a drs office I worked at.

I have heard a lot of people fuss about the things on the mirror because a lot

of people use them that should not. They take them out of the car belonging to

the person who they are intended for, carry it to Wal Mart or wherever they are

going and then hang it up on the mirror so they do not have to deal with

parking. That burns me up!

The plates cannot be transferred as easily. The last I heard the state here was

trying to make everyone stop using the placards or whatever they are called

after a certain period of time due to this abuse.

I will have to speak with my primary doc. She is the one that seems

to move things alot faster. I love my surgeon and pain management

docs but ultimately they have to answer to her anyway.

Thanks,

On one hand I hope they do something about the whole thing, then I

dont. Let me explain. My husband would use my car with the plates to

get a good parking space. The placard I could hide but the plates

just means him taking my car (and he would). I love my baby but he

can be an %$$ sometimes. LOL!!

It doesn't matter which doctor fills out the form.

I will have to speak with my primary doc. She is the one that seems

to move things alot faster. I love my surgeon and pain management

docs but ultimately they have to answer to her anyway.

Thanks,

Cherese

For me it does, one I can have an appointment with this week and she

is 15 mins away, the other ones would take a couple of weeks and they

are an hour away (I dont make that drive on my own since the fusion).

Speak to the doctor that you are seeing this week and see if she/he will fill

out the form. Believe it or not, some doctors won't fill it out. Good Luck.

Part of me thinks hard to believe any doctor would not want to fill one out then

again with some of the butt holes I have run into that have MD licenses, it does

not suprise me!

I was very fortunate to work for some very compassionate doctors!

Cherese

If your doctor will sign for you to get the handicap sticker it doesn't mean

that you have to use it If you are having a good day and feel like walking then

do it. But, it doesn't hurt to have the sticker for those days when you don't

feel you can handle the walking.

Good for you for realizing that your husband would be willing to abuse your

handicap sticker. Unfortunately there are many more people like your husband

than there are people like you. Just look around, you see them everyday. You see

handicapped people using the spaces to let someone else run into a store. If the

handicap person is staying in the vehicle they don't need to be parked in a

handicap spot.
