THANKS Dora!

:) :) :)

You are a VERY SPECIAL PERSON!

I thought to myself WOW this would be a 180 turn for Dora, AND it woudl be the

I am so honored to have you as the moderator of this site. For me it is as if

you are part owner. Mainly because for the most part our philosophy is

soooooooo similar.

I am so humbled by your post.

Love and ALL my respect,

Hi, Everyone,

I have a question regarding our speech processors, regardless of brand or

type.

I have two 3G processors and two Freedom (please don't hate me! LOL).

Both 3G's and both Freedoms are mapped exactly the same as its pair so as to

provide a backup in case of trouble. My question is this. Is it better to

store one processor without batteries in its case and use only as a backup when

needed -- OR -- use one processor one day - use the other the next, changing off

from day to day, and, of course, using the Dry and Store each night?

Thanks for your replies and comments.

Jackie,

I have two 3Gs. One processor has an older map stored on it and the spare

has a new map with a little more volume. I always keep the spare processor

in the splash case without batteries until I need to use it. Every now and

then I alternate between both processors just to make sure they are working

properly.

All of my CI accessories are stored in a Pelican case

(http://www.pelican-cases.com/cases.html) so everything is in one place and

can be easily accessed while traveling.

If you use one processor more than the other, it may be best to store the

spare *without* batteries so there is no risk of battery corrosion or

leakage.

Hope this helps!

Hi,

I had a lump about the size of a pea behind my ear lobe that developed over about 3 days after ctoma surgery. Dr. said it would probably shrink and it has.....almost impossible to notice now.

Ask the doc.

Take care

Jackie,

It's tough for me to comment on this one as I'm not even

bilateral..yet..LOL, nore do I have a back up...ok.. I won't hate

you. LOL

I would think the way you use your processors would be an individual

thing too.

You might try the back ups and see if they sound the same as the

ones you wear, because even though they are mapped identically,

there could maybe be some difference in how each processor sounds ya

think????

If this is the case, then I'd keep the back ups stored for

emergencies so you needn't get used to different sounding processors

every other day.

Not sure, but just throwing this comment off the wall.

Hope you are doing well and enjoying hearing in stereo!

PBing stand for " productive burping " which is vomiting when you have

the band. It is different, but it is when the food coming back up,

the stomach makes and effort to get soemthing out, either because

you eat too fast, soemthing gets stuck ( big bites or not chewing

well) or you are overeating.

Seromas are not common but some patients have incisions that leak,

this is fat that is melted under the skin and is finding a way out.

When a patient has this happen it is not a problem or soemthing

dangerous they need to let it drain and wash over it normally with

soap and water. You should not put anything inside it but let it

close by itself from the inside out. You will get instructions on

this in case you are prone to seromas. Usually in a week or two it

is gone if you follow the instructions the doctor gives you. If you

do not follow the doctors instructions it can take longer to heal or

even give you an infection.

I hope this answered you questions.

Hi , My Name is Darlene, and I was told 4 months ago that I had it, and I live in Cottonwood Az, so where do you live? I do know that ahcccs will pay for a biopsy if your doc. will order it for you, they do here. liver if it has been 8 months since you have been around this person i have asked doctors and no one seems to know nothing here where i live. could you please help me find out i have been so sick. also i have severe rhematoid arthritis and thyroid problem which doesn't help. but i need help and no one can answer my questions. just would like to see if any one can. thank you Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. -Hi, and welcome - both to this group, and to Bandland! We'll offer

suggestions when we can..

Yes, intestinal gas is pretty normal. I personally believe that it is

decreased a lot or totally eliminated by having only fluids for 2

days before surgery. Too late for that, though! :-) So, now,

minimize the air you swallow. Don't whip things in a blender or shake

wildly - stir gently to mix. I don't know what your particular doc

orders as far as a post-op diet progression, but some experience

extra intestinal gas from milk producs, if they do not normally drink

a lot of them. The gas will decrease as you heal and get back to

better foods.

Isopure clear protein drink is well tolerated, and comes in several

flavors - it's at the GNC vitamin stores. The " Nectar " online protein

is also good, but hopefully you won't be on xlears long enough to

bother ordering things online.

It's normal to be tired for a few days. you just had major surgery!

Do walk as much as possible, but don't overdo it.

Please follow your own doctor's orders about wound care and showers.

Dr Kuri instructs daily showers and 3x a day careful wound care with

antibiotic ointment, and we have had no wound infections at all with

this regimen. Don't soak in a tub, hot tub, or swim for at least 2-3

weeks until all the scabs are off. You can buy gauze or steri-strips

at any drug store, no need to pay for a walk-in clinic. Call your

band surgeon for any concerns - pus-like discharge, increasing

redness or pain, etc.

Don't be afrid to take pain meds if you need them. Plain tylenol is

fine, if you don't need stronger meds. Just be sure to cut all meds

into pieces smaller than an aspirin, or use liquid forms (both now

and later). Be sure your meds can be safely cut. Ones that cannot be

cut should be obtained in a liquid form or smaller pill from another

manufacturer. I'm sure your doc went over all this with you.

You should feel a bit stronger every day, as you recover. Be sure to

follow you doc's orders, especially with the diet. Eating solids too

soon can disrupt healing, and this early healing and the forming of

secure scar tissue is essential for a long life of your band inside

you. Avoid vomitting at all costs, especially this early after

banding.

Start learning about better nutrition and Band food choices, and what

you must do to keep your band safe and healthy. There is a lot of

general Band info on my new website, as well as information about new

Bandster CD's that help with the many emotional and lifestyle changes

that must be made to do well. The band is a wonderful tool, but does

nothing to help with these changes.

Glad you found us!

Try a different brand at your local store. I find that ones that are

pre-mixed are better than ones you have to mix from powder. But as to

which ones are good, some love the ones I hate...personally I can't

stand a fruity one....but others love them. Try it, you might like

it. Plus, it won't hurt you to NOT have a protein drink for that

first week or two. The most important thing is getting plenty of

fluids in to keep you from getting dehydrated.

Hello,

Sandy, your suggestions helped a lot. Thank you very very much for

taking time to write the e-mail.

I am feeling better now. I am a bit shaky and feel tired.

My steri-strips fell off, I just put new clear ones. I am on full

fluids. Gas is minimal. I just have to drink slow. Now that I can

drink full fluids, I have more options of protein shakes so that

feels nice.

Did anyone experience diareha after surgery? I guess may be because

I was on clear fluids, I had so much diareha uptill yesterday. Now

it slowed down but my intestines just feel funny. I have cramps and

urge to go, but nothing happens. Sorry for the yucky description but

just wondering if anyone else felt the same.

Thanks again

Thanks a lot Dan.

I wonder if there are any protein soups out there?

I am from Canada and when I was on Dr. bernstein's diet, we had

protein soups and protein mixes tasted like breakfast oat meal. Do

you know anything like those?

Thanks

Diarrhea is common, particularly if you're doing milk based protein

drinks. For some strange reason milk products seem to cause it, even

if they didn't before.

Don't worry about it....it will pass.

Don't know, but to me there's no difference between a full liquid soup

and a protein drink. Only difference is whether it is hot or cold,

whether eat with a spoon or drink from a cup. And I've certainly

drunk tomato soup and others before. But don't get hung up on the

protein. For a couple weeks it isn't as critical as you might think.

Never heard of those, but if you had them once, assume you could find

them again. Whatever tastes good to you. What I like you may hate,

try the thinned chili or blended and thinned meaty soups like the

Chunky Bean 'n Ham or Green pea and ham - lots of protein and fiber.

Thinned refried beans are also good for the protein and fiber.

My doctor told me to expect the diarrhea for up to 1 month after surgery because

your body isn't getting the same amount of food that it used to and is now

trying to use some of your fat storage to survive. That would be the biggest

cause of it during the first month or so.

I'm one of those who at my advanced age is willing to just accept lots

of things as " that's how it is, and the why doesn't matter " . To me

this is one of them. I had lots of diarrhea for a couple of weeks

after banding, and wasn't doing milk products. Was that why? Don't

know, don't care. Our bodies do lots of strange things that we can't

always explain...and some of them we'll never be able to explain.

Don't mean to stifle any discussion or answers....but you'll find many

other things that just don't make sense. I weigh daily, though don't

generally recommend doing so. What it has taught me is that daily

weights in and of themselves don't mean anything....just the trend.

Last week one day I ate a bunch of crap I shouldn't have, and I was

constipated. Next day I weighed in the morning and had lost a pound.

No, doesn't make sense. The next day I was really eating right in

both quantities and types of food. But then the next morning I gained

TWO pounds. Why? Don't know. But as long as the daily weights all

stay within a range of a few pounds, it doesn't matter. At this

point, for me, watching the trend (preferably flat line) is something

that helps, as long as I don't make myself even crazier than I already

am by worrying about day to day changes.

He said a mixture of just fluids and " trauma " from abdomen surgery.

Anything can upset your system and surgery's pretty traumatic to your

body I'd say! lol

So its a good thing. My diareha slowed down after starting to eat

yogurt. I think my main problem was the sweet drinks. Right now,

sweet juices, even to look at them makes me feel nausiated.

impression that PNWB was for the purpose of posting events and notices

of up coming functions. It was/is a quick synopsis of things to look
