Guest guest
I can purchase virgin coconut oil in Central America, in liquid form, similar to Olive Oil. I see that there are several companies here in the US selling organic coconut oil in jars, i.e. Emerald Laboratories, which I just purchased from GNC. What is the difference between this type of coconut oil, which is a white, solid substance, and the coconut oil I can purchase in bottles in Central America? If anybody knows it would be appreciated. Thanks. Mark
Guest guest
Mark, The only difference is in your country it is usually more than 76F. At this temperature, the coconut oil is liquid. Below 76F it will solidify and be white. Guest guest
Coconut oil has a melting point of 25%. In tropical countries where coconuts grow it's usually sold in bottles as it is liquid, just like oilive, vegetable oil etc (but lighter in colour and texture). If you bring those bottles into a colder climate the oil will solidify. It's hard to remove the solid oil from a bottle, that's why in the US and Europe they sell it in jars or wide mouthed bottles. The actual oil being sold can be of several different qualities: RBD (refined), organic, virgin. Even the virgin oils can be of different qualities depending on the way it is produced. So don't bother about the containers; find out exactly what kind of oil you are buying, i.e. how it is produced. Any pure, unhydrogenated coconut oil will be solid below 76 degrees Fahrenheit and liquid at warmer temperatures, no matter where you purchase it.
