While we're onthe subject of advertising: there have been quite a few TV

prigrams inthe UK rescently about teenage obsession with slimming. It was

shocking to see even pre-teens worried abiut their body image and starving

themselves in order to look slimmer - and in some cases supported by their

mothers! One mother lived on a Slim Fast and her daughter aged about 12, alread

quuite thin, thoygh thatbeing even thinner was the way to go.

The other day i saw a programm about Liz , former editor of Marie ,

who published 2 covers of the mag, one with thin Pam and the other with

curvy Sophi Dahl - the latter one sold out, showing that women were only too

happy to have fuller role models - after which the advertisers of marie

made such an uproar Liz had to resign.

Here's an article by Liz about it;

http://www.guardian.co.uk/Archive/Article/0,4273,4274963,00.html

also i nteresting:

As for me: I lost 22 pounds with coconut oil and then it stopped, and stayed

that way, even after times of heabvier eating such as a cruis and christmas.

Sems my body is telluing me that 62 kilos is the perfect weight for me even

though I would like to lose 5 more!

I've always read the proportion was 40-30-30; I have a book on the

subject. I read " Entering the Zone " when it first came out but other

nutritionists I admire critique Barry Sears' conclusions on various

technical points that I can't recall. Atkins said the total carbs,

not just the ratio at a meal, is still important.

Some proponents of 40-30-30 say the exact ratio is nothing to sweat

over; the point is to have balance at each meal to keep blood sugar

steady. In other words, eat some fat and protein with your

carbohydrates so you don't send your blood sugar up high, provoking

an insulin response.

There's a lot of sugar in Slim Fast, yeccch.

I did hear that Unilever was losing a lot of money with Slim Fast due

to the popularity of low carb diets.

That is really sad about the children and slimming. A child bones are porous to

allow for growth and children will gain weight until

their bones have solidified.

Properly done, as you seem to be doing for yourself, eating will not allow one

to lose more than they should. The height/weight

charts of the insurance companies do people a grave disservice, as they are 10

to 20 pounds too light.
