Had an interesting day yesterday, coconut oil-wise.

First is in the paper (the Philippine Star) there was the second part of a

two-part article on virgin coconut oil benefits - intended for novices

though. Not much we don't already know.

Second was I paid a visit to Nature's Blessings

(www.naturesblessings.com.ph) after following up the address on their

website. I got to talk to the owner who turned out to be an old

acquaintance from the early days of the Net in the Philippines. Turned out

to be Figueroa, who founded one of the first commercial ISPs in the

Philippines (Sequel.net - which was later purchased by PLDT to become

Infocom). also used to have the local franchise for the Internet

World tradefairs organized by Mecklermedia and I gave a couple of talks in

these.

had dropped out of sight for a few years and we all wondered what

happened to her. I did hear she got breast cancer. But yesterday, she

looked younger, thinner, and in good health - the cancer was in remission.

She attributes this all to the coconut oil therapy. She has a farm in

Quezon province where they grow a lot of organic coconuts. After she got

well, she decided to go into virgin coconut oil processing, and her main

clients are cancer centers. She says she doesn't care if the venture turns

out profitably, she just wanted to spread the good word about VCO. She's

mainly retired from the Internet business now, less stress.

Unlike Tropical traditions, they bottle their own oil from their farm (I

understand buys his from farmers then bottles and resells it) and

exports most of it to the US. But she' starting to sell it in the

Philippines as well after some interest picked up when she appeared on a

morning TV talk show on abs-cbn.

was nice enough to give me a free sample, so I got home with a free

500 ml bottle of VCO and a small 250 ml bottle of citrus scented VCO-based

massage oil. She also said they are working on a low-carb coconut flour for

baking low carb bread (interesting).

The best part was actually talking with a real live knowledgable person

about all these topics, instead of on the internet! I guess I'll be seeing

again sometime soon, maybe interview her for a magazine article about

using VCO to bounce back from breast cancer.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I have used their VCO,

and it is **wonderful** ... one of the best. Period.

It is certainly very good quality VCO, has wonderful coconut aroma

and tastes good too.

Haven't tried the scented massage oil yet - still looking for someone

to massage me (unfortunately my girlfriend is too ticklish for

massages! Always bursts out laughing which destroys the mood!) Also

looking forward to seeing if the coconut flour products are any good.

Still haven't stopped looking for good quality domestic VCO suppliers

in the Philippines though. It might be good to compile a list. Come

to think of it that local VCO users group still sounds like a good

idea. Hey pinoy listers! Speak up! :-)

Based on the Philippine Star article on coconut oil (more like a

published letter to the editor actually), I found another supplier

with a website. This one is based in Cebu.

http://www.ipi-phil.com (International Pharmeceuticals Incorporated)

Their VCO is marketed as " Esher " brand virgin coconut oil, available

in 120, 500 ml and 1 liter bottles.

Seems to be a new " product " in their lineup - hopefully they get to

supply this widely in Philippine outlets so VCO becomes more of a

mainstream product.

> Jim, She sounds like a really neat person. Did you think to tell hr

about our group. Id love to meet her here.

I did - but says she's too busy to read mailing lists. Pity

though, because as a cancer survivor who attributes her well being to

coconut oil it would be interesting to read what she's learned.

She says she supplies a lot of cancer centers. Even claims the CDC in

the US buys her oil. Raised my eyebrow a bit here but if the CDC is

conducting research I am interested to hear about findings soon. The

research of Dr. Dayrit on VCO as a treatment for HIV patients and

possible defense against SARS may have sparked their interest.
