I could feel that you're your confused because you apparently don't have access to adequate and right information and facts about dietary fats and oils, as well as the coconut oil and other sources of plant and animal fats, as these influence our body and general health. Yes, it has come to my attention that most of our doctors are not updated with preventive medicine, particularly, the nutrition aspects. This is indeed very sad for us as we rely much from our doctors to provide the right diagnosis and curative measures ! And also beware, nowadays and globally, there many peddlers of pseudo-science. Hence, we should know the truth about fats and oils in food we take in recent years. Many medical doctors still use outdated medical books with serious of technical mistakes or wrong conclusions. A good example is the generalization started by the western world that all saturated fats (plant or animal origins) are bad for us and must be avoided, in contrast, that unsaturated fats (monosaturated and polyunsaturated fats) are the good ones for us. Advances in science and knowledge has now provided us with the truth, and for this, thanks to our vigilant doctors, medical scientists, nutritionists and biochemists in the developed and developing countries who are have uncovered many facts and started to correct the errors committed in the past. Anyhow, may I strongly suggest that you read the booklet (38 pages) " Facts and Fallacies about Coconut OIl " authored by P.K. Thampan. Guest guest
Low fat diet and the one that uses any vegetable oils except the coconut oil will only damage your health. If there is only one book that you will want to read make it " Eat Fat, Lose Fat " by Enig PhD. who studied fats for 30+ years and knows her fats. If you follow her instruction, you will lose weight and gain health at the same time. Your cholesterol is not too high, but it is perfect for you. Cholesterol drugs are only good to make money for pharmaceutical companies. The whole cholesterol campaign if a fraud. Please read this . http://www.ravnskov.nu/cholesterol.htm I'm sorry I know nothing about neuropathy but hopefully it will be helped by getting yourself healthy overall. Even if not you will feel better so it will be worth it. Barbara Sue <bobnsueallison@...> wrote: My Neurologist just told me that I have Idiopathic Neuropathy. She said my colesteral is too high. Guest guest
Hi.....Janet here. Sue, I put Idiopathic Neuropathy in my Google Search box, there are, as usual many sites. I copied this as a starting point for my reply to your query. " Idiopathic Neuropathy is a disorder that affects the peripheral nerves and has no identifiable primary cause. " That's a doctor's way of saying, I don't know what to do, here, take a pain pill. You did not say what your specific symptoms are. I have neuropathy and I have diabetes. The burning/stinging pain in my legs and feet, sometimes in my hands, was terrible, but I refused another Rx from my doctor for it. I tried many topical things on the market for such pain...got only very temporary relief. I had to get up at night and walk the floor to get circulation to my feet. In desperation one day, I typed into Google Search: burning/stinging feet. Many sites came up, but I was drawn to one on the side. It was a homeopathic formula, Artalgia. I bought one bottle, very low- priced, free shipping, and after using it one day my legs and feet stopped burning. Only 10 drops of the formula under the tongue 3 or 4 x daily has done it for me. That was several months ago and it's still working. As for the VCO, I take that also. 3 or 4 Tbs. daily. And I use it for cooking. I also use olive oil. I too need to lose weight, but I have the bad habit of sitting at this computer rather than going for a long walk or doing some form of exercise. I have had more energy since I started the VCO. I'm on synthroid for my low thyroid, I'm anxious to see my next test results will be since VCO is supposed to help the thyroid. Hope this helps. ~~~~~~~~Janet > > My Neurologist just told me that I have Idiopathic Neuropathy. She said my colesteral is too high. It is 210. Guest guest
Hi Janet. Thanks. I have more aching pain in various parts of my body. Stiffness too. It started out with tingling in my hands/arms/feet/legs then it turned to mostly aching, stiffness and I am getting weaker. Now I have a limp in my left leg. I don't know if I believe anything this doctor says. I think the coconut oil is helping me and I am not going to quit using it. All I really want from her is a correct diagnosis. They won't even let me have copies of my medical records. The girl said no when I asked and said to call a week before my next appointment (in a month) and they would let me have them then. For $25. Anyway, I will try the Artalgia > > > > My Neurologist just told me that I have Idiopathic > Neuropathy. She said my colesteral is too high. It is 210. Guest guest
Hi Sue - Janet here. The symptoms you describe sound like something other than or in addition to peripheral neuropathy. Proper diagnosis is the first and most important step to any start in the healing/treatment program. I don't understand your doctor not giving you a copy of your test results. BEFORE I leave the doctor, when she tells me about my test results, I say: I need a copy of these test results for my file. She later tells the nurse to give make a copy for me or I tell the nurse the doctor said I could have a copy. It's only a Xerox page or several, that should not cost $25.00. Some nurses act like they run the World. (Sorry nurses who don't fall into that catagory) You may need another diagnosis. If you go to another doctor, he/she should be able to get copies of your prior tests. It could be you need tests beyond the ones you have already had. I recently had stiffness and pain in my knees. I restarted taking MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane),a diatary supplement, and in two days my knees were OK. Still a little tender, but better. Keep 'fishing'-- searching Google. Type in your symptoms and study what comes up. In my case, I ask God for His perfect guidance before hand and that helps me choose the site best suited for my personal needs. Symptoms are a good doctor's map to your personal problems. Diagnostic tests indicate the problem sites. Reading your own test results will seem like 'Greek' at first, but the test copies I get show the range that is 'best' for each particular segment of the test. If you have one that indicates out of the norm, go to Google and research that. There are many medical sites to help in that respect. Good luck and good health. ~~~~~~~~~Janet > > Hi Janet. Thanks. Guest guest
Thanks Janet. The thing I'm worried about is ALS. I do feel better today. I don't know if it is all the coconut oil or the medication she gave me. I'm not very happy with her, but my husband thinks she is great. He doesn't want me to use the coconut oil. He is very stubborn and thinks he knows everything. He doesn't--he doesn't read the books. He just condemns it because he says so. So I'm just going to let him eat what he wants. If he doesn't care about his health, then fine. Coconut oil is really helping my skin and it tastes delicious. I hope it will help me lose weight too. I think I am going to have to go on the coconut diet though. Sue > > > > Hi Janet. Thanks. I have more aching pain in various parts of my > > body. Stiffness too. Guest guest
Sue, I have neuropathy - probably from several causes. I was malnourished as a child and developed neuropathy, but recovered fully when well fed. Then when I was 32 I almost died from a gas leak, and that seriously damaged my nerves, but over the course of about 1 1/2 years I again recovered (almost totally). Then over the years I took various meds which I found out a long time later that they could cause neuropathy. The damage was very slow so I did not notice, but was having gradually increasing problems. The final blow was from taking Lipitor. I had sudden severe damage to my nerves and muscles, and though I have gotton somewhat better I never recovered. I developed system wide neuropathy from Lipitor - not just peripherally. Now I will not take any medication without seeing if possible neuopathy is in the list of side effects. If is is - no matter how low the doctor says the risk is - I do not take the risk, because I cannot afford any more nerve damage or I could die (as my organs already are affected from this). You would really be surprized at the number of medications that " can " cause neuropathy. Many other things can cause or aggravate neuropathy too. Elevated blood sugar is a number one cause of neuropathy. A lack of sufficient nutrients can also cause neuropathy, especially a lack of B-12, or an inability to absorb it, or taking folic acid if you are not absorbing B-12 (because then you accentuate the B-12 shortage). There are other nutrient short-falls that will cause of aggravate neuropathy, but I cannot remember them off the top of my head. You could google and find out. But, and this is important, a low fat diet is really NOT good for your nerves! A low fat diet can really aggravate neuropathy. A low fat diet also increases the number of strokes, and also increases the incidence of Alzheimers disease. Your nerves and brain needs fat to function well. Its amazing to me how few people actually understand this. Many of our ancestors DIED because they couldn't find enough FAT. Fat and Salt are both absolutely necessary for our survival, yet in this century we have been told many lies and now folks are even sicker than they were before and still don't have a clue as to why. zoe
Guest guest
Please look up ALS and Lyme Disease. Lyme is becoming a world wide epidemic and mimics or IS many other diseases. Coinfections also play a role. It would be important for you to see a doctor who specializeds in tickborne infections. However, many are finding that one doesn't even have to be bitten by a tick to get this. It possibly can be transmitted through the blood supply, sex, breast milk, through the placenta....The lyme germ has even been found in tears.Look up Lyme Disease symptoms until you find a very long list. The list of symptoms put out by the mainstream medical sites are very small lists and restictive. I was told I had CFS for 8 years. I had burning pain in my legs, pain in my feet, tingling and tripping. It was awful. All that has gone away with antibiotic treatment Margie Sue <bobnsueallison@...> wrote: Thanks Janet. Guest guest
Hi Pat, The Coconut Diet is in the book EAT FAT LOOK THIN. I haven't tried it yet. I'm trying right now to eat organic foods that are healthy for you. I've just started using coconut oil for a few weeks. I believe Dr. Fife more than I believe my neurologist. I think I'm starting to get better because of the way I've been eating for the last few weeks. The pain is almost gone and I'm only limping when I get up from a chair. I get a little less stiff after I walk for a while. Maybe I can start walking on the treadmill again. I've been reading as many of Dr. Fife's books as I can. I need to get some more of them though. Guest guest
Hi Amber, Thanks for the information about Lipitor. I've taken it a few times but I usually quit after a month or two. I get to thinking it can't be very good for you if it can cause liver damage and I quit. Doctors keep wanting me to take statins though, so over the last few years I let them talk me into it. I didn't know they could cause neuropathy though. Why did my neurologist say that if this low fat diet she wants me to do didn't work then I would have to take medication for cholesterol. She said my cholesterol should be 150. I don't agree with any of that, but I just said okay because I didn't want to argue with her. I'm going to do what I think will actually help me. I don't like her at all but I needed her to sign LOA papers. Since I'm getting better though maybe I don't need her at all. Guest guest
Hi Sue, No doctor should be forcing you to take any statins. Tell your doctor that you need your cholesterol in order to function properly and that if you take statins to lower your cholesterol, you will be harming your body. She should be signing your LOA papers regardless of whether you take statins. phine > > Hi Amber, Thanks for the information about Lipitor. Guest guest
My doctor asked me to take Satins -- my cholesterol is way high. However, I have just read, thanks to someone on this list -- and a wonderful web page -- that the higher your cholesterol the longer you live. I also know that the cholesterol and the sun - make vitamin D which you body can use to make good bones -- I am worried about all the medicines that are harming our bones. where or where can I in Southwest Kentucky buy VCO? I have been looking, and no one seems to be able to get it. thea --------- Forwarded message ---------- From: " jlkinkona " <josephine@...> Coconut Oil Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2007 22:20:27 -0000 Subject: Re: Diagnosed with neuropathy Message-ID: <fasubb+9ub3egroups> Hi Sue, No doctor should be forcing you to take any statins. Tell your doctor that you need your cholesterol in order to function properly and that if you take statins to lower your cholesterol, you will be harming your body. She should be signing your LOA papers regardless of whether you take statins. phine > > Hi Amber, Thanks for the information about Lipitor. Guest guest
Hi Sue, thank you for replying to me. i will get the book and my very best wishes for your continued recovery from pain. Guest guest
Hi Margie. Thanks. The neurologist said I don't have Lyme Disease. I guess she could tell from the blood tests. Unless maybe it doesn't always show up on blood tests? I guess I should check that out. Thanks, Sue > > > > > > Hi Janet. Thanks. I have more aching pain in various parts of > my > > > body. Guest guest
I've been rereading Dr. Fife's books and I understand better now about how to eat to be healthy. I'm going to have to make some lists though because I forget things. I'm going to cut out as much of the things that promote oxidized cholesterol as I can. That means I am going to have to cook/bake a lot more things. Oh well, it is very important to me now. I guess I still have the neuropathy because some of my symptoms are back. I want to stop the progression of this so I am trying to learn all I can about nutrition. If my neurologist gives me a hard time about my diet, I'll just fire her and get another one. Thanks, Sue > > > " But, and this is important, a low fat diet is really NOT good for > your nerves! A low fat diet can really aggravate neuropathy. Guest guest
Okay, I'll tell her that. I am definitely not going to take statins again. I just don't understand her. You'd think she would know that statins are bad for neuropathy. The last doctor I told about why I didn't want to take statins told me that she would rather forget things than to have a stroke or heart attack. Doctors confuse me sometimes and I forget why I decided not to take a drug in the first place. I'm going to have to find a Doctor that thinks more in line with Dr. Fife. Thanks, Sue > > > > Hi Amber, Thanks for the information about Lipitor. I've taken it > a > > few times but I usually quit after a month or two. Guest guest
I also wanted to add that a TC of 150 is a death sentence. Total Cholesterol should never be lower than 180. Anything lower than that is setting oneself up for a variety of adverse effects. Its amazing the number of stupid doctors out there pushing statins and ignoring the negative effects upon their patients. phine > > Okay, I'll tell her that. Guest guest
Sue: You're right. Lyme Disease doesn't always show up in tests but I believe there is one very accurate test and I think it's called Western Blot or something like that. We live in Canada and my son's Lyme Tests always came back negative until the Doctor sent one to a special Lab in the US and it came back positive. So better look into that. Guest guest
Alot of your symptoms sound like mine. I was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and fibromyalgia. There's an end to the polymyalgia rheumatica... anywhere from six months to two years but involves taking prednisone (a steroid) which has opened the door to osteoporosis and skin thinning but my pain has subsided tremendously. Now I need to get back off the sugar again. I got depressed and I guess tried to but some " sweetness " back into my life by going back to bad eating habits...bad mistake. I paid for the temporary sugar high with a huge weight gain. > > > > > > > > Hi Janet. Thanks. I have more aching pain in various parts of > > my > > > > body. Stiffness too.
